The Alpha abruptly stopped behind me, and I heard his sharp intake of breath. ‘Great. My sons’ mate is the insane rouge.’ His thoughts rudely made their way into my mind. I stare at him, confusion and shock obviously written across my face. His stupid smile still plastered on his face, he leans closer to me, until my little beloved one mewled loudly, distracting him. “What’s that?” His expression changing to one of concern, he reached forward and touched the little bundle I held dearly to me in my arms before I could react. To my surprise, my son quieted a little, rather than mewling louder as I had expected, as if the boy was his father or relative, instead of some stranger.
The boy looked up at me and smiled once more “He’s beautiful”. Again, I was surprised. This stranger calmed my child AND knew his sex, just by looking at it. I was involuntarily reminded of my father and my other siblings. Strangely comforted by him I lean forward as he wraps his arms around me and smiles at my child.
My moment of security was interrupted by the Alpha choosing to clear his throat. “Well, that’s a horrible sounding cough you have there, maybe you should get some water?” I silkily ask him, my voice causing the boy to shiver. “I demand an explanation as to your behaviour, earlier.” He replied stiffly. At least he was being nicer to me, now that I shared a ‘bond’ with his son. I mean, this couldn’t be possible! Interspecies romance, who ever heard of that! BAH! At least this would buy me more time, I suppose, and the little one seems to be happy with him. I doubt the boy would be so happy with his choice of mate, when he knew what I was.
Turning to address the Alpha, I stand to my full height, which wasn’t exactly a lot as I stood at 5’1 feet tall. “I am Cerys. I am not a rouge wolf; in fact I am not a wolf at all. I am a were-cat.” I stood facing him, my expression serious as he began to laugh, even the boy with his arms wrapped around me sniggered a little. I hiss, and partially shift into a Panther, sharp teeth sprouting from my gums, a tail whipping out from under my jeans and black ears appearing on my head. The Alpha and the boy step back from me, surprise and fear flitting across the Alpha’s face in front of me, before he manages to hide it from me. The anger that had been growing in me suddenly changes to satisfaction, stupid wolves. They themselves are myths, and they cannot believe that others may exist too.
The Alpha, now recovered, steps towards me and growls menacingly, just as the boy stands in front of me and growls back at his father. I could feel the anger flowing off of him, and he stands in front of me, protecting me from his own blood. The stories must be true then, of Wolves having soul mates, just as the humans would dream of them. “Mate” the boy growled at his father.
For what seemed like an eternity, they stared each other down, before the Alpha seemingly gave up. ‘At least she’s not actually crazy like I originally thought.’ Once again, the Alpha’s thoughts intrude my own mind, I wondered how this happened without them even noticing or knowing about it, one of my people would surely know, and block me against them. I didn’t even WANT to know what was going on in that stupid man’s head!
I sigh inwardly, unsure of what to do. At least the little one had stopped crying now. He would need to feed soon. I snap my head back up again, as the boy turns to me “Come on, mate. We’ll go home back to my house.” “Your house? You don’t live with, with him? Do you?” I ask, uncertainty evident in my voice. “No, I was given my own house on my 16th birthday, like all other Alphas are. Come on. You can rest there.” He wrapped his arm around my waist, sending one last glare to his dad before pulling me away, I allow him to lead me, not knowing what else I should do.
He soon leads me out of the hospital, and pulls me towards a city-styled car. Opening the door for me, he indicates that I should get into the car. I hesitate, I couldn’t leave my Ute here. “What’s wrong?” He questions, concern written on his face. “I.. My Ute...” I trail off “One of the others will drive it to the house for you” He smiles back at me “I can’t, I don’t want someone else driving it again...” I pause, seeing the jealous and protective look on his face “I’m sorry, it’s just that my Ute is the only kind of house I’ve had for years, it means a lot to me. I’ll drive it behind you, no-one will be able to hurt me-my Ute is fully armoured, I know how to take care of myself after years of being rouge” I smile at him confidently, hoping that he would let me do what I wanted. I needed his protection in this land, for now. I couldn’t go against what this boy wanted.
