Three days later, at noon, Jack, Cora and Nan went to the pier. Today was the day Nan's ship would leave back to New York.
Rose has to stay at home to take care of Josephine and William, but she baked a fresh loaf of bread to give to Nan on her trip.

On the walk down, Cora held Jack's hand and tried to hide her eyes that were wet with tears.

When they arrived, Cora could no longer hold it in. She began sniffling very loudly, and she felt the tears run down her face.

Nan noticed, and bent down to hug her.
She wiped Cora's tears off her cheek, and said;
"Don't cry my darling. I promise I'll write you a letter as soon as u arrive back in England."

Cora nodded, trying to break a smile, but tears still filled her eyes.

Nan smiled at Cora and pulled off the necklace with a tiny cross that she wore.
She gently put it in Cora's hand, and walked towards her ship.

Cora held the necklace up in front of her.
"That's really nice." Jack said.
Cora looked up at him and smiled.

He picked her up and put him on his shoulders just as Nan's ship began to leave the pier.

Cora noticed she was standing up on the deck, waving.
Cora smiled for real now.
"She's waving!" Cora said to Jack. He laughed, and the two of them waved, until the ship disappeared into the foggy ocean.

Once they arrived back home, Rose put Nan's Cross necklace around her neck. Cora smiled and stared down at it for hours, holding her doll. She missed her grandmother so much.

At dinner, Cora played with her food more than putting it in her mouth.
"Are you feeling alright?" Jack asked her.
Cora nodded, but then suddenly burst into tears.

She rushed towards Jack, buried her face in his shoulders and cried as hard as she possibly could.

Rose gently placed her hand on the back of Cora's head, and Cora backed up to sit on Jack's lap.
"What's the matter, sweetie?" She asked.
Cora sighed.
"I miss my grandmother." Cora said.
Rose sighed a sad sigh.
"I know, darling. But you'll be able to write a letter to her when she arrives back in England!" Rose said.
"Yea." Cora said. "I guess so."

Cora went back to eating her dinner.

After dinner, she sat and drew with Jack, while her heart hung heavy inside from missing Nan.

Once she crawled into her bed, she cried herself, silently to sleep.
