I happened to live right under Beverly's floor in the apartment building, I wasn't stalking her when I moved in years ago, it just seemed to happen. I know you won't believe that but it's true. But tonight I heard something from the room above mine. It sounded like arguing.
It was usual, I guess. Hearing Beverly and her husband argue, and although I still love her and care about her, it isn't any of my business so I didn't try to listen.
But as much as I tried not to, I could hear screaming and loud- is that a belt? Not good screams either. Bad ones.
I put out my cigarette and saw her run outside, where I had been for a few minutes smoking. But anyone within a mile radius could here them arguing, of course I was worried, but I'm sure if I intervened, I'd kill him.
So I just thought they were going through a rough patch.. until, I saw bruises on her.
"Beverly! Holy shit.. Did he do that to-"
She frowned apon seeing me right now, but afraid for my safety, and not her own. Were they usually like this? I work a lot, I guess to distract myself from my feelings so I never noticed and she doesn't come around much.
"Y/n, you should-"
I heard him run out here, with his belt.. towards her.
"Hey! Beverly, we aren't done!" He looked angry, but I was angrier.
"Hey! Not that it's any of my business but you- you're going to leave her alone. You hurt her and you do not deserve her, I'd kill you right now, but I'd want to hurt you first anyway." I growled, in his face, pushing him against the side of the building, extremely pissed.
He seemed to smirk at this, as if it was a game.
"You wanna fight right now, pretty girl?"
"You aren't worth it. Fuck you." I hissed and pushed him away, keeping my eyes on him, just in case.
"Beverly.." I spoke softly, my feelings changing, as I looked at her. She instantly hugged me and began to cry, I quickly hugged her back, trying to calm her and assure her that everything will be okay.
I watched him run towards us and I gently moved her out of the way, and pinned him against the ground, watching him struggle as I dug my nails into his wrists, he began to whimper, but still tried to fight.
"Hey, listen you fucker. You stay away from her." I heard someone near us who watched everything, call the cops.
"I don't know how long you've been abusing her but it stops now." I growled, pushing his arms so they'd be in a painful position.
"My arms! Fuck!" He growled trying to shake me off of him.
"I can hurt you worse." I stared him down.
The only thing I could hear next, was him insulting Bev and I began beating the shit out of him and then, I stopped as the cops came to arrest him.
Of course they asked us questions and blah blah blah but her husband had a hidden record of abuse in past relationship, guess he knew some people so they helped him hide it. But then they got arrested so he went down too.
Once that was over, I didn't say anything to Bev. Maybe she doesn't wanna talk about it. Yet, or at all which is fine.
"Here. I made you this. You used to have me make you it all the time when we were younger." I smiled, gently placing the cup of hot chocolate by her on the table.
"Hot chocolate! Oh my god, you know, you always put a secret ingredient in it and it changed everything for me. It was the best hot chocolate around." She smiled at me, smelling it.
