I hung up on Ashton, and put my phone on charge. As I lay on my bed, I started to sob. I'd barley known my dad. It makes you wonder, what it would be like if I had spent more time with him. All the father daughter things I'd missed. All the pain me and my mum went through. Yet now, 10 years later, there was a small glimmer of light. I'd spent so long trying to find who killed my dad. My mum told me it was stupid, even made me have counselling. But now, I'd found Ashton. The man who's music was my escape, could also be my closure. The end to all the endless pain. I stared up at my 5sos poster. I loved Ashton now more than ever before. "This was it," I thought. "I'll finally know."
Mum made me a fry up for breakfast the next day. "Mum, I have news." I smiled. "Ooh, do tell." She laughed.
"I think I might have found a lead on who killed dad."
Mum sighed. "Maia, I know you're still hurting. I am too. But you have to let this go now. It's just causing you even more pain. I wish we knew, I really do. But honey it's time to let go now. Your dad wouldn't want this. You're young, go have fun. The police have done all they can. And so have you. Please, Maia, no more. " mum sat herself down onto the sofa. She pulled me down towards her, and put her arm around me. "I love you, Maia. That's why this has to end."
"I know mum, I know you mean well. But this could really be something! It's the closest I've ever been! I promise, if it's nothing, I'll leave it. But I need to try, one last time." I kissed her forehead.
"One last time. I can't cope with any more Maia." I walked out of the living room, back upstairs to my bedroom. I text Ashton. "Can we meet Friday?xxx" I was desperate to know now. He text back, within minutes. "Yeah! 2pm at mine?xxx" I grinned. Although it was horrible circumstances, I couldn't believe how much time is get to spend with Ashton. I felt like a bigger a girl that ever. "Yeah, see you then:) xxx" I slipped into my pyjamas, and scrolled through Netflix, before falling asleep.
Friday came so quickly. I put on my skinny jeans and blink-182 tee, and fixed my make-up. Mum drove me to Ashton's. "Are you sure this is what you want?" She asked.
"I'm sure. I love you, mum."
"I love you too." She replied, waving as she drove away. I knocked on the door. A chirpy woman, I assumed was his mum, answered the door to me. "Hello love, can I help you?" She smiled.
"I'm meeting Ashton?" I replied.
"Oh, I didn't know he was expecting anyone.. Ashton!" She shouted. "Your friends here!" She smiled, showing me in. "Do you want a drink love?"
"No thanks." I smiled. Ashton ran down the stairs. "I'll just grab a clean shirt, and then we'll go, okay?" He smiled.
"Okay." I replied. Ashton's mum frowned at me.
"Sorry, I didn't ask your name."
"Maia." I smiled. Her face dropped.
"Now, you listen to me. If you hurt my son, I'll make sure you know about it. I want you to tell him you don't need his help. If it's money you want, I'll get it. Just leave Ashton out of this. He doesn't need to know." She said.
"Know what?"
"The truth out his father. I understand you want to know about yours, so go to this address," she said, writing something down. "Ashton's dad is here. Just please, leave my son out of this." Ashton came down the stairs.
"Are you ready Maia?" He smiled. He looked so perfect. Yet I had to deny the one thing I wanted. "Sorry, Ash. I think I need to do this alone. I call you later though." I walked out of the door, which almost broke me. As I left, I herd Ashton yell at his mum. "What did you say?!"
