The Phoenix's Mate

Chapter 5

Flair's POV

I slowly woke up to the morning sunlight coming into the window that's covered in ice from outside, I'm still half asleep and my eyes are half open as I looked around to find myself in an unfamiliar room, it's obvious that it's a male's room from how it looks but the room is clean and smells like pine and cinnamon and everything started to come back to me from what happened yester day. I looked over at a nearby clock and see that it's 6 o'clock in the morning; so I got out of bed without waking my mate that's sleeping next to me in bed.

When my feet touched the carpet floor it felt like silk to me and I love the feel of it but I also have to be careful because when a Phoenix gets upset the first thing to burn is the clothes that are not fireproof for a Phoenix and the carpet. I walked out of the room quietly and followed Jade's scent to next door that's across the room from my mate's but my guess mine as well now; to Jade's new room and I quietly opened the door and walked over to the crib and see a still sleeping Jade. I smiled and put the little blanket cover her then quietly leave and put a protective spell around her room, it's a special force field that will keep anyone that means harm out of the room.

Once the spell is finished I walked down stairs and into the kitchen to make food for everyone and it didn't take long to finish the food and have it set out, I grabbed my plate and sat down at the island and start to eat my breakfast. I heard someone coming from behind me but only to walk around the island and once I see the familiar red hair I knew who it was. "Good morning Derek." I said with a mouthful of food.

"Morning Luna." Derek said with a yawn and sat down across from me with his plate and start to eat. We both eat there in silent but Derek kept staring at me with confusion, I sighed and looked at him. "You can call me Flair and you have a question don't you" I said/asked, I watched him nod and finished his food.

"Why on the first day we met that I felt a connection to you? like I knew you from somewhere?" he asked. I thought about it for a few seconds, I could do a test to see if he's a Phoenix from our tribe since a female left our tribe to go be with her werewolf mate in Ireland, but there's one way to find out. I stand up and put away my dirty dishes then looked at Derek who's watching me wanting questions. "I might know what it is but to find out if it's true or not, I'm going to have to give you a test." I said and leaned on the counter.

Derek looked at me like he's debating if he should do it or not, then he looked me in the eyes like he's ready for the challenge. "I want to know what it is and even if I have to take a boring test to do it." he said with determination in his eyes. I nod but smiled a little when he said boring. "This test is special so it's not boring at all." I said and walked out of the kitchen and out side into the cold morning air and I know he's following me. "So where's your training area?" I asked.

Derek leads me to a training area in a clearing away from buildings and trees which is a perfect place for the test and what made it even better is that no one is around so people will still think that Phoenixs aren't real. I took off my shoes and let my feet touch the cold snow and walked into the middle of the fighting mat and turned to look at Derek only to see that he's looking at me crazy but he copied me; I had a hard time not laughing at him as he walked in the snow barefoot and trying to act all cool about it but you could clearly see him jumping a little from the cold snow until he got onto the mat which is covered in snow as well but not so much. "Now I need you to think of the sun and how hot it is." I said and all I got is a crazy look from him but I give him a stern look and watched as he closed his eyes with a sigh and start to think about the sun.

I watched closely to find any changes but nothing happened for a few minutes until I noticed steam coming from the snow at his feet started to melt at his feet and I knew that he's a Phoenix or at least half of one but the test isn't over yet. "Get ready to fight." I warned and when Derek opened his eyes and was about to ask why, I punched him in the stomach and watched as he stumbled back but caught himself and get ready for a fight.

We circled each other and sizing each other up then he attacked first and I easily dodged his attack but pushed his back and leaving a burning handprint shirt on his back, for a second I saw what I'm looking for but now I just need to help him let it out and it's going to be risky because I got to get him annoyed and even that's risky. Derek tried to attack me again but I dodged and kept dodging his attacks and send him a smirk every time he misses me and soon enough Derek got so annoyed that his wings came out, Derek's wings are a gold color with dark red tips on certain feathers to make a design of a burning sword. Surprised is a understatement for me right now, I'm shocked because the burning sword means that he's the second in command of the Royal Phoenix family.

"Derek calm down and look behind you." I said calmly and luckily he did as told and when he looked behind him to see his wings, he was in so much shock that I think he even passed out for a second so I helped him put his shoes on and hide his wings and helped him back to the pack house. "If anyone ask just say that I kicked your butt a bit too hard and you hit your head on the mat too hard and what ever you do, DO NOT tell anyone about us being Phoenixs got it?" I said sternly and Derek just gives me a dazed nod. This is going to be a fun morning. I thought to myself as we entered the pack house.

Now I know I haven't wrote for a long time and it's because of work then my dog died in April during the Cove-19 so it's been stressful for me that I couldn't write so much like I did with my other books so I hope this new chapter will make up for the days that I never did chapters and for waiting and I hope you all forgive me and enjoy the chapter and I'll update when I have days off from work when I can, and I hope you all have a good day or night!
