another sticky, humid day in dawsonville, georgia. the heat slowly starting to rise and create a summer day
mariah's eyes began to flutter eyes open, a sudden click going off in her head, her heart rate accelerating as she remembered that today is graduation day
a day she thought would never come.
she pushed her comforter over her tan body, turning her phone to check the time and quickly hopping out of bed to get dressed for this special day
"mariah, vente a comer!" mariah's very hispanic mother called out (mariah, come and eat!)
"si mama, ay voy!" she yelled back while checking in the mirror one last time to make sure that her jean shorts and red bulldogs shirt looked nice (okay mom, im coming!)
mariah was a beautiful mixed woman, her mother coming from mexico while her father was a white man from colorado.
her parents work hard enough, her mother is a nurse at the local hospital and her father helps build auto parts for nascar sponsors and drivers.
they didn't consider themselves as poor but they weren't rich either, they were considered a middle-class family.
mariah quickly walked down the small flight of stairs and walked into the kitchen where she noticed her mother preparing her fathers lunch for the day
"good morning mama" mariah spoke out before grabbing some coffee and placing creamer in it before putting it into her coffee cup.
"good morning mija, you better hurry and pick up your cap and gown for today" her mother said never taking her eyes away from the lunch she was preparing
"i know ma, but i got time, the ceremony doesn't start till like 1" mariah began, "It's 6 am" she chuckled
her mother let out a little laugh and continued gathering her ingredients for the lunch
"do you think you're gonna make it on time for the graduation mama?" mariah eagerly asked with high hopes in her mind, sometimes her mother's schedule prohibits her from coming to important events
"well you know how things work, i am gonna try to work things out and get out on time but sometimes things happen and i gotta stay a little longer." her mother said with a smile on her face finishing the lunch and placing it in the lunch box,
"besides, if im unable to be there, your father will be there for sure"
as if on cue, mariah's father walked in and gave her mother a kiss goodbye before walking up to her,
"Im proud of you kiddo always will be, no matter what happens" He spoke out and lifting his arms waiting for a hug
"thank dado" mariah smiled walking into his arms and giving him a big bear hug earning a light laugh from him
"alright my lovely ladies, i gotta head out. i love you both to the moon and back!" he yelled out before closing the front door and walking to his very georgia styled truck.
mariah's mother also bid her goodbyes walking to her car and leaving
mariah sighed loudly before finishing her coffee and placing it into the dishwasher. she began walking to her front door.
she then suddenly stopped in the living room, getting a wave of emotion seeing the entire living room packed away in moving boxes. it made mariah want to crawl into a ball and cry all day.
guilt struck her as well. she has told nobody about the fact that she was moving states. she hasn't even told her closest friend, chase elliott.
she has known chase since the beginning of time
her parents know his parents, her dad said that he met bill in his shop, and bill introduced himself as a new employee, but her dad also said that it was quite suspicious because he would hardly see him there, let alone working.
the elliott's sure have money, but they also had major secrets that they kept away from anyone they knew personally
they always made sure that their friends had no idea of their nascar lives, they didn't want their friends going and opening their mouths about their personal lives to the public.
a horrible reason to keep that a secret for that was their profession, but they needed personal space from all that fame and this was their escape.
but of course, suspicion from the leonard family was always there.
for example, mariah seemed to notice that chase had some sort of schedule, he would only go out on certain days of the week. mariah always asked why but he would never tell, and it would always bother her.
but the secrets of the elliott family were their problem because now the leonard family had a secret to worry about.
the leonard family didn't want to tell anyone about their moving scheme because they didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. they just wanted to disappear and never look back in guilt that they made people upset
they knew that this was worse but this way, they had no way of seeing the faces of sorrow and pain of their friends.
mariah hated to lie and now she had to lie to the one person she would never lie to.
she wanted to tell him and she was going to do it but she had no actual plan on how.
mariah shook the thoughts from her head and continued on her mini journey to her high school to complete the last day of school.
