"mariah rose leonard" a loud voice boomed over the speakers
mariah quickly jumped out of her seat walking up to the stage
as she climbed the stairs, she stumbled a little.
she hoped that no one saw what had happened but she knew people saw when slight laughter came from the people below her.
she instantly got embarrassed sending a sheepish smile to the crowd while also scanning for a pair of eyes
as chase locked eyes with her once more, he could feel his heart skip a beat
he knew she was embarrassed so he sent her a reassuring look as she continued across the stage looking amazing in her long gown and her short hair flowing down from her cap
his heart starting to do flips as he noticed her walking his way to her seat
mariah squeezed his shoulder not thinking of how chase was thinking about her
chase let out a breath that he didn't even know he was holding, smiling as he tried to relive that moment

as the ceremony came to an end, chase found himself trying to find mariah
he found her conversing with some friends, looking like a goddess
mariah noticed chase standing awkwardly there waiting for her in the corner of her eye
she turned to face chase, placing the conversation she was in on paused as he was more important than some gossip
"hey there" she smiled at the shy boy standing before her
"hey, sorry for interrupting, I didn't mean too" chase instantly said as he noticed her drop out of the conversation
"oh don't worry about that, it was nothing anyways" mariah lightly laughed, her heart soaring due to the close proximity she was in with chase
"all i wanted to say was, i'm really happy we're friends. I could have never gotten through high school without you, thank you for an amazing 18 years mariah" chase admitted
he really was grateful for everything she has done for him, he was grateful for the fact that she made him forget about the horrors of the world, he was grateful that she made him forget about his fame and was able to live a normal teenage life around her.
mariah felt like she was on cloud nine with every word he spoke, it triggered something within her. a foreign feeling, a much deeper feeling, could this be mariah falling in love?
as that thought came into her head, she felt the guilt wash over her again.
mariah didn't want to say anything, or more like she didn't have anything to say, she truly was speechless.
so instead of speaking, she wrapped her arms around him, hugging him as her head laid on his chest
chase was caught off guard but he didn't complain, instead his arms settled around the fragile girl, holding her closer to him.
chase was absolutely head over heels for the girl, there was no doubt about it. but something triggered in his head as well, maybe she didn't like him back, maybe she really did think of him as her best friend.
he felt the terror of being rejected by the one person he loved most come over him.
"god i love you" mariah whispered.
she felt amazing saying it out loud, even if she knew he couldn't hear her.
she knew she meant it.
she pulled away and scanned his face seeing his side smile appear but also noticing how his eyes were clouded in confusion and hurt
she frowned, something was wrong. but she couldn't as for they were both being pulled away by their families to celebrate.

as mariah walked into her room after spending a tremendous amount of time with her family, her phone buzzed
she glanced down, her heart fluttering as she read who it was from
11:30pm chase e. can't wait to hang with you tommorrow. :) goodnight mariah
mariah smiled at the message placing her phone on the charger cause the phone to light up and display the wallpaper that consisted of a picture mariah took while chase and mariah were having lunch together
she then laid in bed, the thoughts of tomorrow consuming her and placing her in a slight slumber

chase awoke with a smile on his face
he jumped out of bed, walking to his dresser to get ready for the eventful day ahead of him
as he pulled out his red flannel shirt and black jeans, he noticed an envelope with his name on it
it didn't have a name nor an address so it was safe to say that chase was very much confused
he ripped open the envelope only to reveal a stack of pictures that were either plain mariah or chase and mariah together
chase scanned through the pictures but one particular picture caught his eye
It was a picture of mariah making a serious face with a ski mask on.
chase vividly remember that day, almost as if it was yesterday
it was his 18th birthday, the day where chase finally knew he was purely in love with mariah.
since that day it was chases birthday, mariah took chase to a movie and they decided to watch John Wick as it was the new action movie out
after the movie, they entered the mall where mariah was acting like a child in a candy shop
mariah ran into the local spencers with chase hot on her trail
"chase, look at me!" mariah giggled as she put on a scary mask trying her hardest to act scary
unfortunately, it completely backfired as chase was about to cry from laughter
as chase's laughter died down, he began to admire mariah, he admired how much fun it was to be with her, there was never a dull moment
he lifted up his head to look at mariah once more and suddenly, chase was found love struck
