Chapter Eight

Niall's POV

I'm that one coin in your piggy bank that won't come out, and you're constantly shaking it and making the coin spin in every direction, and right now, I am that coin and my world is spinning.

"I love you too." I whisper to Ell, not sure if she's saying it because she's in distress or because she means it but either way, I'll take it.

"No, I mean it. I still love you. I never stopped loving you and.." She says, gritting her teeth as we go over a bump, her leg bouncing.

"And?" I ask, wishing I could do something for her, letting her squeeze my hand as hard as she needs.

She curls up, her muscles tensing, trying to deal with the pain, her eyes closing, her breaths uneven, making me worry, forgetting about the and.

"Breath." I say, rubbing her back, getting to the hospital and getting her out of the car and taking her inside.

The hospital is full of people who need to see a doctor, making me worry about how long it's going to take.

"Take her to the emergency room." Avery says, pushing past a couple of people, excusing herself and running to the desk, "I have a lady who broke her leg falling down the stairs and has a concussion." She says, filling out some paperwork.

"Bring her around." The lady says, the door opening to a nurse with a wheel chair, I set Ell down and try to walk with her, "Are you related to her somehow?" The nurse asks, stopping me.

"He's my fiancé." Ell says, her eyes begging me to go along with her.

"You can come." She says, holding the door open for me.

"I'm here." I say to Ell taking her hand and walking with her.

The nurse takes her to a small room, "Could you please lift her onto the bed?" She asks, her mood changed to a very nice one, "And I'm sorry for earlier, it's standard protocol." She says, fluffing the pillow for Ell as I set her on the bed, the nurse draping a blanket over her, "What's you're name dear?" She asks, putting a heart monitor thing on her finger.

"Eleanor, but my friends call me Ell." She says, looking at her, and then at me, taking my hand.

"Okay Ell, I need to put an IV in your hand, have you ever had one before?" She asks, putting on some gloves and cleaning her hand with a wipe, looking for the vein in her hand.

"Yes, when I had my baby." She says, closing her eyes so she can't see the needle, squeezing my hand.

"How old is your baby?" She asks, inserting it and connecting a drip to it, Ell's face relaxing.

"She's 6 months but was born premature." She says, finally opening her eyes, the nurse taping the tube to her hand.

"If she looks like you and your fiancé, she's beautiful." She says with a smile, getting a few ice packs and putting it on Ell's ankle and leg, "The doctor will be with you in a little bit." She says, "Is there anything I can get you?" She asks, looking from me to Ell.

"No, and thank you." Ell says, smiling at the nurse as she leaves.

I sit down and move the chair closer to the bed, taking Ell's hand again, more for my sake then hers, "I'm so sorry." I whisper, kissing her hand and putting it to my forehead, feeling like this is all my fault.

"And I think Alex's is yours." Ell says, looking at me, her eyes telling me she is completely serious, "I don't have any solid proof, but the timing just fits and everything and she looks like you, and the first time I got to hold her and look at her eyes, her eyes told me you." She says, holding my hand, leaving over the bed, leaning in close to me.

I begin to lean into her, our lips nearly touching then then sound of a curtain pulling aways makes us jump away from each other.

"I'm Dr. Wilson, and you are Ell." She says, smiling and looking at Niall, "And you are?" She asks, shaking hands with Niall.

"Her fiancé, Niall." He says with a smile, shaking her hand back.

"Ell, can you tell me what happened?" Dr. Wilson asks, sitting down on the cool spiny chairs we all wanted to sit in as a little kid.

"I was working a last minute shift at the Hilton and a new shipment of sheets came in. I saw taking the service staircase because they don't like employees to take the guest stairs or the guest elevator and the service elevator was currently out of order. I was walking down the stairs and tripped on one of the dozens of boxes that get thrown in the stairway because people are too lazy to take them to the trash and fell head first and landed at the bottom of the stairs and tried to stand up and couldn't. I grabbed my phone and called the landline to my house because Niall had just changed his number and I couldn't remember what it was, a few of his friends from England are staying for a few nights so I knew someone had to be there to pick up. They came to the Hilton and rescued me, I would probably still be stuck down their if it wasn't for them." She says, telling the doctor the story with a few flawless lies that I almost believed for a minute.

"It sounds like we are going to need to do X-rays on your leg, we are also going to need to check to see if you have internal bleeding or any broken ribs so we are going to take you to do a full body scan. The X-Rays for your leg will come to you, but you will have to go to the body scan." Dr. Wilson says, standing up and putting the chair back in its place, "We will bring you a hospital gown when it's time for the body scan." She says, closing the curtain and walking away.

"All I heard was this is going to cost a lot." Ell says, hanging her head, "I don't have the money to pay for this, I'm still paying for when Alex was born." She says, letting her head fall back onto the pillow, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"I already said this, I'm paying for this Ell, and we are going to go back to the Hilton and get your workers compensation. They should've required that that stairway be clear and it wasn't and because of that, you got hurt. They should have to pay for an expenses." I say, wiping her tears away, giving her the kiss we both wanted before Dr. Wilson came.

Ell gently kisses me back, putting her hand on my cheek, kissing me back even more, pulling away before we can get carried away, "I love you." She whispers again, taking my hand, and smiling at me, the X-ray machine showing up a couple of minutes later.

They take X-rays of her leg, the X-ray technician motioning Dr. Wilson over, "Oh... That's a bigger problem then what I was expecting..." She says, pointing to something on the screen.

"Ell, you broke your tibia and fibula and it looks like possible your femur." She says, moving the X-ray thing up to her thigh, taking some more pictures, "Our suspicions are correct. Ell, I hate to say this, but you're going to need surgery."
