Into the New World

Day 0 - [Part One]

BRI - Beijing Reaserch Institute

Scientist Huang Feng is a well known scientist in China. He was a gifted man who developed many things, from cures, sickness, and to new substances. That's why he was given a special task by BRI to study an unknown substance that had suddenly appeared in a Poyang lake in the mountains where a Jiangxi lies. The unknown substance has been causing the animals in the water to turn a weird color of green but most importantly the fishes in the lake are suddenly dying. And their meat can't be eaten at all due to an unknown poison. That's what the head of BRI had said to the media but the truth behind that is much more serious.

It wasn't poison at all that was causing the fishes in the lake to suddenly die nor it is a normal phenomena. The fishes are dying and the cause is unknown but all they know is that it isn't something that should be taken so lightly. So BRI's head scientist Zhao Lei gave Huang Feng the special task to study it, find out where it came from and on how to get rid of it. With a few chosen scientists that is now under Huang Feng's team they set off into another facility which is under BRI that is near the said lake. The people in the area was also put into a temporary quarantine where they weren't allowed to leave their province to go to the cities. So food and water was also provided for them in the mean time. Just until the problem has been solved.

It was just a normal day in the Province of Jiangxi, the people are doing their daily activities except no one was allowed to go out to the city. Poyang Lake was also restricted. Having barricades all around it to make sure no one gets inside. Huang Feng along with his team are also inside the barricade. They began getting samples from both the lake water and the different animals in it especially the fishes. The lake water which is contaminated was put in a clean bottle of water while the sample flesh of the dead fish are put in a small glass container. After getting enough samples Huang Feng's team went back to the facility. They can finally start analyzing the samples, testing to see what's really going on and on how the lake got it.

"Huang Feng take a look at these!!"
One of Huang Feng's friend called. Liu Cheng has a shock expression as he look through the microscope. This made the other scientists curious as to what he had saw and why is he so shock about it. So they all began closing in on Liu Cheng trying to also know what's going on but Huang Feng scolded them and told them to get back to work.

"What's going on Liu Cheng?" Huang Feng calmly asked his friend.

"Just take a look at these." Without arguing, he followed Liu Cheng and took a peek into the microscope only to be baffled at what he also saw. What they saw was a weird looking organism that is eating the other organisms commonly found in fishes and also multiplies in a fast rate. With quick minds Huang Feng immediately searched for anything that will give them an idea on what they just saw. It might be a new organism or a very old one that they still haven't discovered yet.

A few days passed with no luck on finding a clue about the organism they just saw. But what's alarming now is how rapid the new organism was multiplying. Yesterday there were only a somewhat thousand of those organisms but now they multuplied into millions. And what's more shocking is when they brought in a few bags containing the dead fish of the lake the fish was slightly moving. Like twitching and so. There wasn't even water in the bags that the dead fish was put into but the fishes started to twitch, some are already moving and all which surprised all the scientists in the small facility.

Huang Feng realizing that this isn't something normal anymore began studying them. And what he found was even more shocking than what they saw earlier. The new organism that they saw was now residing in the bodies of the dead fish. But not just any part of the body. The fish's small brain was now full of black lines. And the fish still looks dead but also alive, the only thing freaky about it is that they aren't in the water but they can still stay alive.

"This fish looks more like a zombie fish now. I mean look at it's body, it's already rotting but the fish is still moving and all. I've seen this kind of things in movies guys. Like how the fish became a zombie then bit every human that comes across it, turning them into zombies then infecting more and more people till it's a freaking zombie apocalypse!" The other younger scientist who was listening to the young scientist Liu Shen laughed it off at how ridiculous his story was.

"Now that's just absurd. You watch too many movies Shen. And zombies aren't real. There must be an explanation on why this fish looks like that." This made Liu Shen upset that no one's believing him. The signs are already there. The new organism, the dead fish coming back to life but still looks more dead than alive, their weird color and how their small brains have weird black lines in it. The signs says it all. But he thought no one believed him or so he thought.

Huang Feng was just standing a few feet from them silently listening to the boys conclusion on why the fish looks like what it looks now. His sudden conclusion made something snap inside Huang Feng. He doesn't think that it's absurd that the fish might be a zombie fish cause it's very much possible especially with how advance science is now. Anything can be possible even a zombie apocalypse. With that in mind he began his work again but this time not to find out the source of this new organism but to find out how to destroy it or cure it somehow.

Few more days passed. Huang Feng was still busy finding a way to destroy the now called Jiangshi virus. The other scientist are also busy. They are doing their jobs quickly, for a storm was coming and the power they are using might get cut off since the storm was a strong one that will come that night. They all wanted to finish what they are doing to at least prepare for the storm that's about to come. The barricades surrounding the lake are also strengthened to make sure it can withstand the strong winds brought by the storm.

Liu Shen being a bit clumsy spilled his bottle of water on the floor so without looking at where he's grabbing he grabbed another bottle and chug it all down. Unknown to him that the bottle he drank from, contained the infected water of Poyang Lake. He didn't even notice it nor did the other scientists so they just carried on with their work. A few hours later Liu Shen suddenly felt sick. His whole body started trembling, his face was pale and he was having a high fever as well. The other scientists noticed it and was thrown into a panic fit when Liu Shen started convulsing.
A few older scientist helped bring Liu Shen into his room where he was given medicine and was put to sleep. One scientist was left to watch over him. After an hour had passed Liu Shen started shaking again. But this time not in a normal way. His body was turning in weird angles that it scared the other scientists who quickly called for assistance. Two more scientists came to check out what's going on with Liu Shen and that's when they noticed his deathly pale skin with weird black veins showing. Liu Shen started groaning, then hissing until something snap in him. He stood up and suddenly attack the one sitting beside his bed tearing a piece of flesh from his neck.

The others look in horror as Liu Shen ate one of them like some kind of animal who hadn't eaten for months. Then they became the target as Liu Shen staggered towards them with bloody mouths and white eyes. The other scientists pushed his friend and quickly ran out of the room clearly forgetting to lock it. In his panic he forgot to alarm the others as he ran for his life. The others strangely looked at Xu Cheng's actions who ran out of the facility. Then they heard weird groaning sounds and that's when all hell went down. Liu Shen or what was suppose to be him along with the other two scientists attacked everyone in the small facility turning them into mindless zombies who's only purpose is to spread the Jiangshi virus. Since the facility was small there wasn't much security guards to defend it so it was easily taken over by the scientist that are now zombies.

The few scientists that were saved was Xu Cheng who ran out of the facility after witnessing Liu Shen attacking his colleagues then Huang Feng who was called back to BRI's main facility carrying all his stuff as well as the new found information he had found. The scientists, now zombies quickly got out of the facility due to the doors being wide open giving the chance to spread the virus through the people of Jiangxi. Some luckily escaped but some didn't. A lot was turned into zombies and are now making their way to the city by following the other survivors.
