The Summer day's sun sit at its' highest point, the forest sings in the breeze. A sweet sour scent of the apple orchards dances around modest wooden house and its' occupants; the house and it's ground are sparsely populated at the moment, many of the family are out seeking a 'Deputy' that is causing havoc in our hometown. How can one woman carry the wrath of a thousand men? Dad's been working away in the other segments of Hope County, supporting our soldiers and helping those who need our protection. One of the only good things to come of this, being that he isn't here to give me driving lessons- why he thinks I need to learn how to drive eludes me.

I smile over to the brothers and sisters that march into the grounds, many sporting game of fish that they had caught for tonight's feast. Hunters and Chosen perch on the fences, stretching out their tired limbs. Sitting on the steps to the porch, a stocky silver and sable judge trots out of the house, sitting to my right. He sniffs my clasped hands in greeting, "Hello Jericho. You seen dad anywhere?" I muse as I stroke between his ears; an iron red pickup rumbles into the gravel pathway in front of me, Jericho howls in greeting to the brother's who vault out of the back of the truck. "Speak of the devil." I mumble as dad drops out of the drivers' side. His face is scrunched up in worry, his glasses gripped in his left hand. This is not good.                  He marches up to me and Jericho, his face softening as he looks up to us. "Hi Angel." he hums, grinning up to him he lowers himself to sit on my left- Jericho stumbling over me to greet him, tail causing a, not too unpleasant, breeze;  "Hello Jericho." he chuckles- I bite my tongue, not wanting to break peaceful silence; "Yes. You still need to learn how to drive." He states, a laugh in his voice as he sees my face fall. "My current mood does not give you a free pass from learning to drive." He pulls me to my feet, Jericho yapping as he jumps up at me. Looking down to the young judge, i toss him a chunk a jerky from my pocket which he crunches happily. "Go explore. Learn things." I instruct him, he bows playfully howling before trotting into the forest behind the house.  "Ok." I groan, "Let's get this over and done with..." dad chuckles as we round the car, "That's the spirit!" he cheers as I buckle myself in.

Turning the ignition on, I pull out of the pathway and onto the wide Montana roads. So for so good.....

Dad gives me small pearls of wisdom as we wake away through the snaking country roads; steering clear from Falls' End, for obvious reasons. A deer jumps out of the thicket as we are turning back, slamming the brakes on the stag stares into my eyes- fleeing a moment later. "Carry on, you are doing great." Dad urges, using his level voice that he reserves for his sermons. The old car stutters as i force it to move forward, dad begins quoting anything he can manipulate to fit my situation, I'd be lying if i said it didn't help. "If only I could ride the horses everywhere...." I think aloud, dad relaxes back into his seat. "Horses will only get you so far." He whispers, how an he be sleeping right now?! "Horse are cooler than cars." I grumble, smirking at the amused snigger that rips from his lips. He pokes me in the side, "I'll make you a deal.." he leads, I flash my eyes over o him as we near the house- "I'm listening." I reply. Pulling into the pathway, he pulls himself up in the seat, stretching his neck. " I'll let you run errands with me," he suggests. I rub my chin in thought "Eh," I shrug. We exit the car as he grumbles, "OK, OK-" He rubs his face, stopping in front of me. "You can also.... get another judge." he relents; squeaking I fling myself at him, "Deal!" I laugh. Running out into the woods I call Jericho, turning to look to dad I ask "When's the next lesson?"
