Cold... everything is cold...
As the chains rattle against the walls, some chains free of any liveing being trapped in them, others occupied with "kids" much like myself.
Kids... we were kids once... now were just lab rats. Experiments. Toys, all for a mad mans pleasure.
Thankfully I wasn't locked in the chains, I had been here long enough to know that escaping wasn't possible so I never tried.
Wimpers and crys can always be heard bouncing off the cold walls of this prison we call home.
I don't cry any more, crying gets you no where. It won't save you from this torture, if anything... it makes it worse.
Suddenly the door that lead outside of our miserable prison opened. Not surprisingly there stood the man, the mad man who imprisoned us here. But... what was surprising was the small little girl, struggling in his grip. She looked no younger the 6 year olds, her pants were torn and her shirt had been destroyed, as if something ripped through it, she had on outside clothes... not the clothes given to you after your first experiment. She was a new experiment, and judgeing by her destroyed blood soked clothes she had been through alot. Her blond hair was all in a tangled mess and her blue eyes were clouded with tears of not only pain but also fear. The man was holding her up in the air by her hair.
What shocked me most were the small bloody wings resting on her back.
Her back...
Just the sight of the bloody mess on her back made me sick. It made me flinch my large caramel colored wings. Yes, you heard me right, wings. Along with these wings were long tail feathers, they started growing around my lowerback and they almost reach the floor.
"Guess what bird boy!" The man snapped at me from out side my cold stone cell.
I didn't dare say anything, If I would have said something I would have growled, I would have snarled, I would have done something to anger him.
"You got a new cell mate!" The man said with scowl, He slammed open the door and threw the poor girl into the cell. Once he was done he slammed the door shut and walked away, glaring at each and every one of his experiments with evil eyes.
I moved my focus onto the small shakeing girl infront of me. I slowly tried to approach her, only for her to scoot back away from me, her body shakeing viroursly. I slowly leaned down and held out my hand towards her.
"Hey there, it's ok. I'm not going to hurt you." I said in a soft voice. My voice sounded dry, I havent spoken in so long, now adays the only things that came from my mouth were animalistic whines and sometimes a chirp or two, which is fair... I am part bird.
"W-who are y-you?" The small girl asked, her voice shakeing.
"A friend." I said gently, extending my wings a small bit. "See, i'm like you." I said.
The girl let out a gasph when she saw my wings, she then turned her head and looked at her own. "T-they hurt." She wispered, refuring to her wings
"I know, mind if I see? Make sure they're okay?" I asked as I knelt down next to her.
She hesitantly nodded her head.
"You grew these today?" I asked. She nodded.
"No wonder it hurts, haveing to grow your wings in one day." I asked. I wiped away a bit of the blood coating her wings. "Your feathers are white." I said.
After further investigating I discovered that, thankfully, nothing was wrong with her wings. "Everything's fine, your just sore from growing them." I said.
"How old are you?" I asked her.
She held up 6 fingers.
"That young, i'm sorry this had to happen to you."
"I want to go home." The girl cried.
I bit my lip, I didn't know how to stop her crying. Carfully I picked her up and held her in my arms.
"I know, I know." I said in a soft voice. "What's your name?" I asked, changeing the subject.
"Angela..." She answered. "What about you?" She asked.
"My name..." I said, my voice trailing off.
What is my name? My real name? I think I had one before I ended up here... but... I don't remember... It can't be "Bird Boy" and I doubt is E#2214... and I know it's not A... so what is it?
The small girl tilted her head.
"I... I... umm... I don't remember." I said.
"Oh... hmm... I'm sorry you don't remember. " Angela said in a small voice.
"Don't be, it's not you're falut." I said trying to give a reasuscering smile, keyword trying. I wasn't very successful. "The others have taken to calling me A. I think it's short for Avian... so... you can just call me A." I said.
It was true. Some of us that have been trapped here for most of our lives had all given each other different names. None of us remembered our real names so we named each other.
"I wanna go home." She said in a sad tone, a few stary tears falling from her eyes.
I bit my lip as I wrapped her in a hug with both my arms and my wings. "I know you do." I said gently. There was something about the girl. So young and innocent I felt inclined to protect her.
She surprisingly returned the hug and curled up in my arms. "I like you. You seem nice." She said with a yawn.
Before I knew it she was asleep, out like a light.
I let out a small breath as I carried her to a corner and gently laid her down.
"Shes so young." I mumbled.
"Fletchling." Wispered a small voice in the back of my mind. I don't know what it was thats caused me to think that... I don't even think it was me that thought it... but I knew that the voice was right.
"Yeah... Fletchling." I agreed.
