Steven ou l'Optimisme

Preface

Hello Dear Reader,

It has been a year since I began writing  more well thought and drawn out fanfiction, better fanfiction than what I have done years prior. Some might remember my original fanfics such as Monty Uno's Flying Circus, and The Cartoon Cascades... or something like that, which I may revive some time in the future. But the fanfic the I truly started writing was Toons In Revolt, A Cartoon Analysis  on Poverty, Crime, and Revolution which was based on some of the classic works of the 19th Century and those of the Enlightenment. It was my first time delving into Europe and the model of Historical Fanfiction and certainly not the last. My ideas for that fanfic has sadly run dry in terms of advancing the action, so I decided to revamp it by being more loosely related to Voltaire's Candide ou l'Optimisme which I learned through the operetta by Leonard Bernstein. First, I got rid of the idea of original characters. I know it is a mainstay for most fanfictionalists but it just doesn't cut it for me. What I prefered to do instead was exploit characters that were already established and used them in the roles that seem to is sense. One of them being Steven Universe playing the Candide type protagonist, which makes sense because in the beginning of the series, he is very much optimistic and very happy, and over tie having learned the truth he somehow becomes a little more weary. Of course, I will sprinkle in elements of Les Miserables as well as other nit-bits of European history. In this fanfic as time goes on, he'll see the extreme poverty in the kingdom's capital Galiculla (a European stand-in for KND town Gallagher). Over that time, he will begin to resent the riches he was given and his optimism will begin to plummet, just in time for revolutionaries to take to the streets and rally against the Toontopian monarchy. As a disclaimer, I do not own any of the cartoons nor anime used in this story. They are the property of their rightful owners, whomever they are. The following events are purely fictional and have no ties to any persons, kingdoms, historical accounts, etc. any relation to other real life peoples and events are obviously coincidental. Some of the relationships and happenings are based off of canon from the shows, but otherwise, it's all made up, ships that appear and events happening to the characters that do not line up with canon are made up, for the sake of entertainment. Also, when writing this, I figured that most of the characters of the other shows were to be taken down a couple of ages, to fit with the whole lore of the story. Most characters will be depicted younger than how they usually appear. This fic is rated PG-13. One more point of reference, King Thomas refers to Mr. Warburton, creator of Codename: Kids Next Door, and Lord/King Richard is Robin of Teen Titans Go. I made this decision because Richard is sometimes shortened to Dick and Dick Grayson is the actual name of Robin. Also, as this is a remake of Toons in Revolt, I still try to keep that image of Teen Titans Go and some of the worst characters to ever appear on the animated screen being the tyrants and those poverty stricken are the good and wholesome characters, as well as some small modern social commentary.
