"SIXTEEN"

"If this is about me, please, I shouldn't be a factor." I added, assuming Alice was referring to the bond Emmett and I seem to share. If I was aware, then the psychic had to be aware.

"We can't not consider it. That would be doing an injustice to the both of you." Alice tried to reason with me.

"We haven't even talked about it. It doesn't get the right to be a factor." I retorted moving to sit on the edge of the couch, rolling my eyes at the thought.

"But Lucy..." She whined, pouting at me.

"Alice..."

"Just think about it."

"Alice leave her alone." Jasper tried to butt in.

"But doesn't Emmett deserve to have someone in his life? What gives us the power to make the decision whether or not he gets that chance?" She reasoned with her mate.

"It's Emmett's decision Alice. Give him a second to think and then let him decide." Jasper retorted. This seemed to jog Emmett out of whatever world he was in, because he quickly looked around and then his eyes landed on me. Everyone seemed to be waiting for him to speak. Rosalie and Michele had already gone off to talk and Emmett was one of the last things to tie up before the situation was finalized.

"Umm Lucy. Can we talk briefly outside?" He mumbled, looking a little embarrassed.

"Sure. Come on." I agreed turning back the way I had come and walked out the front door. He quickly followed behind me.

"Do you want to talk here? Or would you prefer somewhere with less... prying ears?" He questioned, very much aware of the fact Alice was definitely listening from inside.

"How 'bout we walk a little bit?" I suggested looking up at him.

"Or we could run. There's a little park about four miles from here. That is, if you don't mind running." He said, sending me his big gleaming smile.

"Let's run." I agreed. He nodded and lead the way. It was obvious that strength was his forte rather than speed. I probably could have run there and back before he reached the park, but since we had a lack of time, I chose not to show off. We arrived at the little park. In one corner there was a playground, the other had a small flower garden.

"Lucy..." He trailed off, turning to me.

"Emmett, I was serious when I said I shouldn't be a factor. This is for Bella and your family's safety." I tried to reason.

"But Alice has a point. What gives them the power to decide whether or not we get a chance?" He added leaning against a pole that held up the slide.

"Well what are you going to do? Stay here? Are you willing to leave your family behind and stay here? That won't even work. Your family can't move away and you stay here." I started to ramble thinking about the options.
