"TWENTY-SIX"
-------------------------
Once I deduced that Char was okay, I sent her home with Embry and Oliver to accompany her. She gave me a big hug, thanking me for finding her, even though the wolves found her first.
Who I assumed was Jared, followed after the group shortly after he noticed their departure. His large wolf head nodded at me as he passed. Almost as though he was saying he would watch them and make sure they got back safely.
After they disappeared from my line of sight, I turned around to the more important task at hand; the groaning vampire standing cornered by two wolves and a hybrid.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" I boomed, running over to stop in front of the man. He said nothing, just continued to groan and grip at his throat.
The wolves sent me a confused look, obviously confused as to why the vampire in front of them wasn't doing anything.
"He's reacting to Charlotte's blood. She's a hybrid so she already has venom mixed in with her human blood. He drank just enough that it will probably kill him. It's like getting bitten again, except this time he can't turn into a vampire." I tried to explain.
"Yeah, it's not worth our time to try and kill him. He can't have longer than five minutes. We can just wait, watch and then burn the remains to make sure nothing happens." Aki added. "He doesn't deserve our fury. What kind of a creature goes after a nine-year-old?! Are you clinically insane?"
"He's just greedy, like so many vampires." I mused, sending the man in front of us a death glare as he fell to his knees, still clutching at his throat. A look of fear plastered itself on his face as he looked from Aki to myself.
"You deserve to have it all end like this." Aki growled. Her eyes were no larger than small slits as she watched the man fall from his knees to where he was laid on the floor, riving in pain.
As much as this man deserved what he got, it still made me sick to my stomach watching whatever life was left in his slowly leave. We all stood in silence. The only noise present in the woods were the groans and screams of the slowly dying vampire.
He laid there for another two minutes before the life left his eyes and he no longer let out any sound.
"That's it. He's done. We need to go deal with the body." Aki grumbled, still pissed beyond compare. This man attacking Charlotte was as close as one could get to attacking Aki's own children without actually doing so.
The wolves nodded at us, moving to lift the limp body up. They lifted it together, each with a limb in their mouth. The large black wolf -who I assumed was Sam- had a disgusted look on his face as we walked toward the center of the clearing.
"Do you have a lighter, or should I call Lex?" I questioned Aki as we gathered a few logs and dead leaves to start the fire.
"Well Lex can't come since we are technically still on reservation territory, but I don't have a lighter or matches on me either." She explained, grabbing two large pieces of wood taller than she was.
