Two days had passed since Ryuga's encounter, and "gamble", with Midari. News had spread quickly, and most of the school now knew that the new kid beat Midari in a gamble. That's not exactly how it went, but such is the uncertainty of hearsay. Since then, Ryuga has gotten a lot more attention than he is usually used to. No longer was his school life quiet. He didn't mind Yumeko being loud; rather, he kind of liked hanging around her, but now a lot of people have tried talking and getting to him. He has never been a big fan of attention, and this new fame has become annoying. He wished it would blow over within a week. People usually do not stay on the same topic for very long... And he was counting on it.

As he was walking towards the school, he could feel students looking his way. He did not look, however, and kept walking at the same pace.

Ryuga's mind: "Never let the eyes believe that they have been acknowledged; however, always acknowledge them."

Ryuga has a list of rules that he, himself, made up for his own life. They are categorized as either "Remember" rules, or "Never" rules. Remember rules are usually less important and more like guidelines rather than principles, but his Never rules were important to the way he lived his life.

This Never rule, in specific, seemed contradictory, but it was anything but that. It has to do with the element of surprise; for instance, if one were to be ambushed, it might have been due to the fact that they were not observant of lurking eyes.  One can overcome this unfortunate event by surprising their ambushers when they believe that they have caught their prey. This, in turn, makes the situation easier to deal with. Once one has acknowledged the eyes, they can start formulating a plan.

Of course, the thought of an ambush by curious students had a low chance of happening, yet Ryuga was a cautious, some would say paranoid, man.

He continued to walk all the way to the courtyard. He had not yet seen anyone he recognized, but that was not a surprise. Once he figured that it was about time to be heading to class, he did so. As soon as he walked in, all eyes were on him. The teacher turned to face him and gave a bow, something very unusual for a teacher to do.

Teacher: "Good morning, Mr. Shinsokai."

Now, this caught him off guard. For a couple of seconds, he was left there staring at her until he kicked himself in the ass.

Ryuga: "Oh, good morning to you too, Ms. Makiri."

The teacher perked up and showed a face of either confusion or appreciation, maybe both.

Ms. Makiri: "I'm surprised you-"

Ryuga: "I read a little."

He gave her a friendly smile, as best as he could, and proceeded to sit down at his respective seat. After a few minutes, Ryuga saw Suzui walk in. A couple of minutes after him, Mary walked in and sat to the right of Ryuga, like usual. Ryuga thought he should address one of his semi-acquaintances.

Ryuga: "Hello, Mary." Mary blushed but looked at him with fury in her eyes.

Mary: "Why did you call me that? Huh!? Have I ever called you Ryuga?"

Ryuga: "Just now? Yes."

Mary: "Don't try to act smart! What makes you think that you can use my given name so lightly?"

Ryuga: "Well, I thought we were at least acquaintances."

Mary blushed harder as she looked away from him.

Mary: "Tch, shut up, stupid."

Ryuga's mind: "Is that her catchphrase?" Ryuga sighed as he looked at Mary.
