Ivory

Sitting up on the couch, I hadn't realized I had fallen asleep until I heard a car door slam...wait, did I just hear another slam? Getting up and walking to the door puzzled, I look out the window beside the door and gasp aloud. Tegan was with my brother.....but why? Opening the door and then shielding my eyes from the glare of the sun, I walk out onto the porch and just stare at Tegan with my mouth hanging wide open. Feeling a little peeved, I Close my mouth. "What's he doing here?" I ask my brother.

"I didn't get on my plane."

Glancing over at Tegan, I glare at him. I may still be frightened from what I just went through, but when it came to Tegan; I had a barrier around my heart. “I wasn’t talking to you.” I growl. Looking back at my brother, I ask “why?” He just shrugs his shoulders and walks up to me to give me a big hug. "I'm glad you're okay.” Kissing me on the forehead; he pulls back to look me in the eyes. “I thought I lost you.”

Looking into my brother's face; he had bags under his eyes as if he hadn't slept in a while, his brown hair was scraggly looking, and he had worried lines creasing his forehead. "You didn't sleep at all did you?" Shaking his head, I stand up on my tip-toes and kiss his cheek. "My dear brother, you need to quit worrying about me so much. Remember? We were raised by bears." I say, smiling. “I'm stronger than you may think. Besides how could I not be strong when I had to put up with your picking all these years?"

Chuckling softly, Jeraud lifted his arms and ruffled my hair like you would a little kid. "You may be older but that doesn't mean I will ever stop picking on you." Watching him walk into the house, I then turn to face Tegan. He was looking at the ground, brows furrowed as if he were trying to make his mind about something. "So, why’re you here?"

"Do you really not know Ivory?"

"I know that if it's part of a game you're playing, I'm not going to be a part of it anymore."

Looking up, startled by my statement, he says, "I'm not playing a game here Ivory. I came back because this girl that I barely know has wormed her way into my heart. Because I can’t leave knowing that this same girl holds my heart. I, Tegan Courielle, am in love with you Ivory. I have been for a while. I was just good at hiding it.”

Narrowing my eyes with suspicion, I ask, "What about your precious career?"

"I can live with getting a different career. What I can't live without is waking up to your beautiful face every morning. Hearing you laugh when your brother tells a stupid joke or does something dumb. Having you near me and holding you are the things I couldn't live without. You, Ivory, are my heart. Without you, I would just be a part of the living dead.” He says, trying to lighten the mood.

Afraid to believe in what he's saying, I just stand there staring at him. We stood there for what seemed like hours, finally making up my decision; I mean the only way you’re going to know if it’s right is if you take a chance; I say, "I love you to Tegan." Watching the joy spread across his face, I smile. Jumping into his arms, I hug him as if I hadn't seen him in years.

Pulling back, I tilt my head back to meet his kiss. The kiss was excruciatingly tender, barely anything more than a whisper of his lips moving across mine, but showing his love for me all the same.
