Crea's Light

The Journey Down part two

As the duo continued on Eve noticed that their surroundings were becoming more and more dull. The trees' shiny sheen was fading. Their color shifting to a more dusty grey brown. The leaves and grass faded too, leaving behind dull versions of themselves. "Hey wolf, why does everything look so different and gray?"
"We are going somwhere that looks very different from where I found you."
Eve sighed, "ok, but why does everything look grey?" Eve's eyes searched around, looking for her white flowers, she was relieved to find a few small patches on the trail up ahead. In this grey environment they stood out quite well.
The wolf paused and sniffed around for a few seconds before continuing on and answering Eve's question. "We are going to the mortal realm to find shelter, the mortal realm looks more grey than the heavenly realm, that's why everything is changing color."

Eve tilted her head, "what's shelter?" How curious, she already knew so much, yet her newness to the world was still prevalent.
The wolf's tail wagged, happy to explain anything the Crea's child. she had to be careful not to use to many big words though. "Shelter is a place where mortal people live to hide from the outside because the outside is mean to them."
"How can the outside be mean?"
Eve sounded genuinely concerned.
The wolf looked back to see her confused and scared face, It looked forward to avoid tripping over a large root. " do you remember when I said I had wild, mortal wolf brethren? They are part of the outside in the mortal realm, and they can be quite mean to many kinds of mortals."

When the wolf said this, Eve began to giggle. The wolf was cunfused,"What's so funny, little one?" she looked back to make sure the girl was indeed giggling and not crying, the two sounded similar sometimes.
Eve smiled brightly. From the mischievous look in her eye, the wolf could tell she going to say something witty. "So, it's normal for wolves to growl at others? Well, no wonder mortals hide, you guys are scary!" She chuckled into a quite giggle again.  The wolf was tempted to unleash the full extent of ecological knowledge on food chains and ecosystems on this little gremlin, this girl would find every reason to poke fun at her, like a puppy that just won't stop gnawing oh the wolf's tail. The wolf finally understood why Crea's asked her to guide Eve through her trials. It was because she had a lot of experience with curious puppies who would stick their nose in everything for no reason at all. Basically, she was stuck on babysitting duty.

However she didn't think this young soul was prepared to learn that the mortal realm was managed through bloodshed for survival, for many creatures.
The wolf chuckle at the girl's antics and sniffed the air, looking for the scent of livestock and humans, it was getting stronger, and she could faintly hear the faint  bustle of a village in the distance.

Suddenly, Eve gasped and clapped her hands, causing the wolf to loose sight of the sound and tense up. The stopped and turned to see Eve  with a determined and curious look in her eyes.
"What is it, child?"

"We don't know our names! . . Huh?  Wait. . ."
The wolf let out a quite, amused bark, "you mean each other's names? I would certainly hope you know yours."

Eve nodded vigorously, cheeks burning.

The wolf smiled, an expression that looked weird on a wolf's face. "Well then child, my name is Themis, Themis the wolf."
Eve smiled, "My name's Eve, Eve the girl."
Themis nodded her head. She glanced at Eve and almost barked in surprise, the girl's clothing was starting to look more raggedy and torn, was that part of the girl's second test? If it was, then she was afraid of what Crea could possibly have planned for her daughter to do in the mortal realm. The Idea of a backwards Cinderella was not a nice image.

Sorry for taking so long to update, I ran into a bit of writer's block, but I'm back now and I plan on working on both my books more frequently.
