Brandon's Point Of View.
7:24am.
"... Man, what happened at your party?" I ask Stacey down the phone "Man, you know, just some rivalry bullshit" he declares "That's why I'm getting the fuck out of here" "Yeah" I reply "Aye, I was trying to tell you at the party I know your still in school and shit, but we've got a spare room, why don't you come with us?" I chuckle sitting on my bed. "My mom wont allow it" "Let me talk to her, man there is nothing for you in LA" "There's nothing for me in...Vermont" I comment as he sniggers "A future nigga. Come on bro, you get to start over, it's not too late" he adds, spitting nothing but facts. "When are you leaving?" "Tonight" he states as my mom enters the room, putting my laundry down.
"Let me talk to your mom" "Mom, here" I hand the phone over to her. "Hello... yeah... Oh hi Stacey" she says, giving me a glare, knowing that Stacey was apart of Flaco's gang. "Mhmm. yeah... well, he's still a child and he has school... yeah...okay" she hands the phone back to me, before leaving. I put the phone to my ear. "What did she say?" "She said yeah, of course, I just have to make sure that you phone everyday" "Really?" "Yep, you only have a few more weeks left of school anyways" he adds. "Okay... good" "Imma come get you at 7, be ready" he demands, hanging up.
Mom comes back into the room as I put the phone down. "Are you sure you want me to go?" "Yeah, you can have a better life there" "I know, you know it's all the way on the other side of the country right?" She nods "It takes more than two days to get there by car" I state as she nods again. "I want you to go, you can visit grandma in New York while your there" "Yeah" I agree, grabbing my bag. "Forget going to school, you have to pack" I put the bag down. "Imma miss your dumb ass, but Stacey said he'll bring you down for every holiday" "How comes you trust Stacey all of a sudden?" I ask "I don't, I trust you to do the right thing this time" she mentions, leaving the room.
Lark's Point Of View.
6:45pm.
I look up from my laptop when I hear someone knock on the door. "Yeah" I call as Tyree strolls in. "What?" I ask as I go back to typing up my homework. "You know Brandon is moving to Vermont today?" "What?" I ask, confused. "Yeah, their leaving at 7" "How do you know?" I ask, closing the laptop. "Word spreads fast out here" he comments. "I know you miss him and shit, if you leave now, you might be able to catch him" I open the laptop back up, contemplating whether I should go or not. "I don't miss him" I lie as Tyree sniggers "You don't have to lie with me Lark, go" I think about it, before getting up and throwing something on. "Don't tell mom" "I wont" he calls as I leave, jogging all the way to Brandon's house.
I spot a van outside his house as he throws bags inside. I stroll towards him, catching my breath. He stops when he notices me, Stacey and another guy are sitting in the car ready to go.
"Hey" he says, jumping from the back of the van. "You wasn't gonna tell me that you was leaving?" "I thought you hated me" he replies "I could never hate you...are you staying out there for good?" "I don't know" he comments as I nod, looking at the ground. "So this might be the last time I see you?" I ask, lifting my head back up. "Come on, we've got to go!" Stacey calls from the van. "It's better this way, I think I fucked up your life enough, don't you" "I think we both hurt each other" I admit, knowing that neither one of us have been perfect during our relationship.
"I have to go now, so..." he adds turning away, but I grab his arm making him turn around. I push my lips against his, he loosely wraps his arms around me, we share a short kiss before he pulls away. "I'll be back for July 4th" "Good" I reply as he cuffs my chin. "See you then, big head" he adds, before going into the van, before speeding away. I turn around, from across the road I see Lay standing there, holding her stomach, I just spin around and make my way home.
