Chapter 6

Lilibeth was sitting on a bench in the garden. She was happy to be amongst the familiar sights and sounds again. She paused a moment from writing in her Diary to take in the beauty of it once again. She was on a bench by the fountain, the water streaming forth from the angels mouths, making a calm and relaxing noise. It was simple, but it was comforting, just the sound of continuous streams of water flowing in and out, the splatter of the water at it hit the bottom of the fountain. She took a moment to take in the smells of the blooming flowers, making her head lighter. She leaned back so the sunshine would find its way to her face, warming it while her eyes were closed. Although there was chaos brewing inside of her, she was able to feel at peace in that moment, even if it was just a short one. She decided to resume her writing, letting the words flow from her pen onto the paper.

I still don’t understand what really happened that night. Nothing could have prepared me for that. Why was Blaine there? I feel so betrayed. It’s almost like there is someone squeezing my heart, just waiting for it to burst. I need to talk to him. I HAVE to. But how? What can I do, what can I say? He’s all I can think about. At times I feel fine, but those never last. WHY DID HE DO THIS TO ME!?!?!? You’re so selfish! And don’t even get me started on Hunter. I just don’t understand what is happening. I think he likes me. Does he like me? I don’t know what to do! I like Hunter, but just as a friend. But Blaine. Can’t you tell how I feel!? How can you not even notice me!?!? You mean so much to me, but you also hurt me the most. I just don’t know if I can handle this. You don’t understand how you make me feel. I love you. I need to talk to you. Why??? Please, say something. Anything? I just… don’t know…

Lilibeth was so focused on her Diary she almost didn’t hear someone walking up behind her. Upon realizing that someone was there she quickly shut her Diary before anyone could see what was written in it.

“Hey, watchya doing there?” Hunter asked.

“Oh, I’m just,” Lilibeth paused, “doing homework,” she lied.

“I see. Do you need any help with it?”

“No, I’ve already finished it.”

“Cool.”

Hunter decided to sit down next to Lilibeth on the bench. Although Lilibeth pretended that she didn’t mind the company, she was secretly annoyed with Hunter for being there with her. This was her place. This was her secret garden, and she didn’t want anyone intruding into it. Well, almost anyone. Hunter finally had to get up and leave for class, he’d left all his stuff in his locker, so he went off to retrieve it. Lilibeth didn’t really want to admit it, but she was glad to see him go. She also decided it was time to prepare to go, so she gathered her things and got up. She thought she saw something moving near the archway out of the garden, but she brushed it off as just her imagination. She started to walk to her classroom, but not before she heard laughter coming from just behind her as a foot came out in front of her to trip her. She started to fall forward, but before she hit the ground someone caught her. She knew that it had been Victoria or one of her friends that tripped her, but it had surprised her that it wasn’t Hunter that had caught her. A jolt ran through her body with the realization of who caught her.

“Why don’t you try being a little more careful next time,” Blaine said in a harsh voice.

He shot a venomous look at Victoria before she scurried off. She looked unnerved at the glare she had received from Blaine. Lilibeth was speechless. She didn’t know what to say or what to do. Blaine was standing right there in front of her, but he didn’t look happy. She thought she might have seen a slight glimmer of joy in his eyes, but it was gone in an instant. She just brushed it off as wishful thinking.
