❝ MARY! A LITTLE HELP! ❞ Cassandra yelled for her older foster sister.
"Comin- oh!" Mary set her sight on the young girl who was struggling to fit her shirt over her cast. Mary walked over to help the poor girl, pull the shirt through the blue arm cast.
"Thanks." Cassie smiled.
"You're welcome." She replied, sending a smile back at her as she left the room. Although she slept with her twin brother in their shared bunk bed, Cassie spend most nights with Mary in her room, as she related to her the most and went to her with her problems. Cassie looked towards the mirror, clutching her stomach. It was true, that Cassie was insecure about herself, almost every detail she saw in herself she found something wrong in her eyes. She was especially insecure about her broken arm. It had been at least 3 months since she broke it. And she hated it. Having to take painkillers and her anxiety pills wasn't one of her favorite things to do. Rosa walked past the room and slowly backed up to see the girl glancing in the mirror. Rosa hated how the girl look at herself in a bad way. Rosa walked forward and placed her hands on her shoulders.
"You are beautiful in your own way, mi querida." She sighed. Cassie leaned her head on Rosa's hands. "Don't bring yourself down."
"I know, b-but it's just-" She stuttered.
"No more," Rosa said turning the girl around, averting her eyes from the mirror. "Now, you and Freddy hang out until me and Victor get back." She said as her turned the girl into the hallway towards her twin and her room. Cassie playfully rolled her eyes at the woman and her actions.
"Ok, ok." Cassie laughed, holding her hands in defeat, knowing that Rosa and Victor were heading out to pick up the new foster kid. Cassie opened the door dramatically to her twin brother Freddy. "I have arrived." She said, walking towards the boy, laying on the bottom bunk.
"Yeah, I don't care." Freddy rolled his eyes at his sister.
"That hurts, you know. More than my arm does." Cassie fake pouted. She walked toward Freddy's comic book stash and grabbed one of her favorite issues of Wonder Women and started reading. Although the twins often insult one another, the two shared their superhero knowledge.
"Did you know that Romans used to brush their teeth with their urine?" Freddy asked the girl who looked up from her comic.
"No, no, I did not." She replied, chuckling. "Just don't say that to the new kid." She muttered, returning to the comic.
"Freddy, Cassie," Rosa spoke from the door, standing next to the new kid. "This is Billy Batson. Make sure you make him feel at home. Okay?" Cassie placed the comic down on Freddy's desk.
"Ok, nice to meet you, Billy." Cassie said to the boy in the beanie, who gave a slight wave.
"Maybe don't say anything too weird, Freddy?" Rosa said towards Freddy, who turned his chair around.
"Oh, one weird thing is, did you know that Romans used to brush their teeth with their urine?" He asked Billy as Cassie mentally and physically face palmed. "And apparently, it works."
"You better get used to that." Cassie sigh, earning a quiet chuckle from Billy.
"Yep. Um..." Rosa said as she left the room and Billy entered the room, looking towards the window. Cassie sighed, knowing that the boy probably wouldn't stay for long.
"Oh, it's a long way down. Trust me, I speak from experience." Freddy said, standing up, showing off his crutch.
"Victor pushed me. They seem nice, but don't buy it." Freddy warned. "It gets real Game of Thrones around here."
"What?" Billy asked in confusion, turning to Cassie for explanation.
"He's joking, and it's not very funny." She said as she nudged Freddy in the arm with her unbroken one.
"Yeah, dude, she's right, I'm just messing around." Freddy said with a smile but faded. "It's, um, terminal cancer. I only have three months." Billy looked once again at the girl who mouthed to him, "He's joking."
"Kidding, again! You look at me, and you're like, 'Why so dark? You're a disabled foster kid. You've got it all.'" Cassie snickered at her twin's poor humor. Cassie turned to lay down back on the bed, flopping on her back in the process, lifting her arm up, trying not to land on it. Cassie zoned at a few of the boy's conversation which was Freddy mostly talking and Billy listening with an awkward expression shown on his face.
"That's the old Batarang." Cassie heard her brother say as she snapped back to reality. "I mean, it's a replica, but feel how sharp. I could kill you in your sleep with that thing." Freddy stated. "You more of a Supes guy?" He asked as he opened up the drawer or as Cassie calls it, "Freddy's secret shrine to Superman."
"Yeah, me, too. Expect for Cassie, she's more of a Wonder Woman fan," Freddy said as he turned to his sister. "Who is lame compared to Superman!" He exclaimed as Cassie rolled her eyes.
"Agree to disagree, Fredward, agree to disagree." She smirked.
"Behold, the holy grail." Freddy held up the bullet shot at Superman, ignore Cassie's comment. " One nine-millimeter round shot at Superman himself. It's legit." He bragged. "Probably worth, I don't know, five, six hundred, maybe more. What's in the bag?" Freddy asked, reaching towards Billy's bag.
"Hey." Billy said as he moved his bag away from Freddy's grasp.
"Freddy, people have boundaries. You've scared the boy enough as it is." Cassie stuck her tongue at Freddy, who did the same.
"Hey, sorry, it's all good. She's right, it's good to maintain boundaries." He said, as Billy just stood still, no reply. Cassie sighed.
"Dinner!" Victor yelled from downstairs. Freddy left the room which just left Billy and Cassie.
"You aren't much of a talker, are you?" She asked while Billy just stared at the girl. "That's ok. But, this place is great. You're gonna love it." She walked over Billy and whispered in his ear. "Even if you won't be here long." And she walked out the door.
Before she descend down the hallway, she peered her head back into the room, her long hair dangling down.
"Oh, by the way," She smiled. Welcome, Billy." And with that, with a grin on her face, she walked downstairs, leaving a blushing Billy in the room.
