YEAH, CRIPPLED TOGETHER

❝ LET'S GO CASSIE! ❞ Cassandra's foster siblings cheered. She chuckled at the group's enthusiasm. They always went out for one of Cassie's softball games. In the crowd, she watched her foster siblings cheering louder than anyone else in the stands. It was her turn to bat, as she passed her best friend Amary Rivers, the two fist bumped as she walked by.

"Get it, Cass."

"Back at you, Amy." The two laughed as Cassie grabbed her bat. The shouts from her family began to be louder. Cassie sighed and focus her gaze on the bat, she didn't want to take her pills this morning so she had been on edge all day. Her breath quickened as she readied the bat. Her eyes made contact with the pitcher.

The first swing was a miss.

"Strike one!" The ref called out.

The second swing was too early.

"Strike two!" The ref yelled once again. Cassie panicked but steadied her bat and breathed in.

"Come on, Cassie!" Her eyes went to her twin brother Freddy as she calm down at the sight of him. She smiled and held her position.

WHACK! The bat made contact with the ball as the crowd's cheers roared. Cassie ran to the bases passing her siblings who cheered the loudest as always.

It was like it was like it was in slow motion for Cassie.
But, Cassie screamed in pain as she tripped on the opposite team player's foot which was stuck out.
Landing on her left arm, Cassie whimpered in pain as the whistle of the ref rang. Freddy and Mary, and Amary were the first ones to approach Cassie. She groan in the sudden pain in her arm.

"Someone call an ambulance!" Someone screamed out as Cassie zoned out, trying to ignore the ache in her arm.

"Hey." She whispered as she backed away. Cassie winced at the pain in her arm.

"You good?" Freddy asked his fraternal twin. Cassie scoffed.

"Just peachy." She sarcastically smiled, earning quiet laughs from her younger siblings.
"Doctors say I broke it, say I have to wear a cast for at least 5 months." She explained sadly and turned to Amary. "They also said no softball." She mumbled as Amary's thumb ran against Cassie's other hand.

"Ok, can we have some twin time?" Freddy asked as Amary and the others left the room. Freddy sat on the end of the hospital bed, his crutch at his side.

"So, I guess we can both be crippled together, huh?" He said as Cassie laughed.

"Yeah, crippled together." She smiled.
