"I could not handle this life here!"

"Kavan is it really you?" I whisper out in wonder.

Happy tears shimmer to the surface of my eyes. He smiles at me as he embraces me.

"It is Princess" he tells me.

"We-we thought you were dead" I manage to make myself say. "though I did not want to believe it was true" I point out. "I saw the rocks crumble on you" I murmur.

"I know Princess. I was hit on the head hard. And then someone dug me out. I could not see whom it was. They did not bring me back here. I woke in some cavern. And it took me days to swim back here to all of you" he explains. "I could not swim for a day or so because of the pain I endured. I am getting stronger every day and I can serve your father once more as I always have" he promises. "I am so glad you have returned home, and you are safe. You are finally with a family. Your family" he tells me joyfully.

I wince.

"Kavan we need to talk" I begin.

"How are you enjoying your new home and your new life?" he asks me.

"Kavan why did you keep this from me? Why not tell me I was the princess you had been looking for?" I demand to know.

"Because if I had you would not have believed me. And you might have taken off on me. Or you would have laughed at me. You did not remember this life. I had to try to get you to remember it. I stuck around and nothing was jogging your memory" he explains.

I soften toward him as his eyes look into mine. I was so happy he was here. He was alive.

"It still hurt to be the last one to know. Then to find out you knew all along, the witch had told me you knew" I explain. "I felt betrayed"
