Chapter 4

When I woke up it took everything I had not to groan out loud. There was no way I wanted to wake up. In my half-asleep stature, I cuddled closer to the solid form radiating heat beside me. Sighing, my entire body relaxed as I began to fall back asleep. The slight rumbling beneath me was what snapped me back to reality,

Ever so slowly, I opened my eyes. As I realized my face was nuzzled into the crook of Logan's neck, I drew back to look up at him. He was already gazing at me, an ear-to-ear smile adorning his face. Scowling, I began to pull away from him. Instead of letting me go, Logan constricted his arms around me like a vice.

Sighing, I slumped back down with a huff. "I thought I told you to stay on your side of the bed," I grumbled.

"Did I happen to mention I'm not very good with following orders?" he asked.

"No."

"Well then I'm not very good at following orders." A small laugh escaped him before he could catch it.

"You're infuriating."

He didn't even try to control his laughter that time. The sound was warm and rich, and it caused a slight fluttering in my stomach that I wasn't particularly fond of. "I can't help it, ma vie." The irritation that his little pet name for me caused was irrational, but it was probably because I didn't know what it meant. For all I knew he could be calling me some filthy name. Blowing my bangs out of my face, I tried wriggling free again.

"Could you let go?" I asked after about five minutes of fruitless attempts at escape.

"Magic word?"

"Please?" I muttered.

"What was that?" Logan cupped his ear and leaned closer, feigning a hearing impairment.

"Please," I said slightly louder.

"Still can't hear you."

"Please!" I all but screamed.

Logan cringed, but unwrapped his arms from around me all the same. "Was that so hard?"

Deciding to ignore him, I turned onto my side so that I was facing away from him. Silence descended upon the room, and it wasn't exactly uncomfortable. In fact, as I listened to the steady rhythm of Logan's breathing, I slowly fell asleep again.

Logan heard Torian's breathing change as she fell back to sleep. Carefully, he slipped out of bed and made his way towards the door. He knew Torian needed her rest for her leg to heal quicker, so he decided he would get to know her pack better while she was recovering.

On the way down the hall, Logan glanced at the family pictures that lined the walls. Pictures of himself as well as Dalton and their parents were smiling back at him. He tried in vain to ignore the sporadic empty places where pictures had been removed, but it was harder than he had expected. Before he could dwell too long in the past, Logan heard the chatter from the living room carry to him. Mentally shaking himself, he turned into the room with everyone else.

Rikki and one of the males from Torian's pack were deep in conversation in the far corner. Logan couldn't help the sad smile that graced his lips. Why couldn't it be that way with him and Torian? Why was she fighting him? Logan had so many questions that he wanted to ask her, but something in his gut told him she wouldn't answer.
