Violet had been asleep for almost 2 hours when her dad shook her arm gently. It was now 8:13 pm and Violet slowly blinked the sleep out of her tired eyes. Right, she was still in the hospital waiting for Pearls surgery. She looked around the room and it seemed to look the same as when she fell asleep. No real surprise there. Her dad was sat right next to her reading a Times magazine.
"Anything new?" she looked hopefully at her dad and he shook his head. "There was a few doctors leaving that room over there a few minutes ago." He pointed at the room that Pearl was in and it made Violet's heart beat faster. Both in excitement and fear. She was closer to knowing if Pearl would be okay or not.
Violet stood up and brought her platinum card to the coffee machine to get a cup of coffee. She needed to stay awake from now, in case Pearl woke up. So even if she didn't like the taste of coffee, the caffeine could prevent her from falling asleep. She stood in the hallway waiting for her coffee to be done when she heard a familiar voice from up the hallway. She looked over there and the same black haired doctor from earlier was talking to a nurse. They was going over what looked like Pearls files. Violet couldn't hear what they were saying but she wanted to know how Pearl was doing. She walked up towards the doctor.
"Hello, miss." He smiled at her and she looked at them with a small smile. "Is Pearl doing okay?" She asked in a gentle tone, not wanting to bother them. "She is stabilizing for now but she needs rest. If you'd like you could go home and we'll contact you when she has recovered." The doctor picked up a pen ready to take Violet's number on a note. "No, i think i'm just gonna stay here. I want to be able to see her the moment she's awake."
The doctor, Doctor Tzu, gave Gigi a smile and a nod. "I understand. I'll be with you and your father in just a minute. I need to go through some paperwork with nurse Erin." Violet nodded and walked back to the coffee machine to grab her coffee.
Once she was back with her dad she told him what she'd learned. He exhaled a sigh of relief and smiled as he ruffled Violet's already messy hair. "See, i told you it was gonna be fine, didn't i kiddo?" Violet decided to relax properly into the chair and she picked her phone up to scroll through Instagram. Right, it was Friday and Naomi was throwing a party. She had good weed there. Violet sighed and thought back to the bathroom stall where she and Pearl would smoke between periods.
It placed a small smile onto Violet's painted red lips. "Hey dad." She turned to look at him. "How did you know you loved mom?" Mr Chachki looked at Violet and smiled contently. The memories of his wife filling his mind and heart. "Oh yes, Diana Summers. Heh, she was everything but a warm person. She was the most beautiful girl in school. She looked a lot like you, Vi. She was completely flawless, but she had a heart of ice at first. It took me years to get her to warm up to me. She would punch me and kick me and call me names but eventually she started to show me an affectionate side." He looked down at the golden ring around his ring finger. "I remember when she would take you from my lap and say she was going to take you on a walk. She would always take you to the park to look at dogs. Do you remember that?"
Violet chuckled and smiled at her dad. She remembered it as clear as day, even if she was just a child. "Yeah, we met this golden retriever there. His name was Benny." Violet missed her mom sometimes. Even if she couldn't properly remember her, she still missed the sensation of her loving arms wrapped around her in a tight embrace.
"I miss her every day." He nodded slowly. "If you know that you love someone you just know. You can feel it. It's like the most painful feeling when you lose someone that you love." He grew silent for a while looking into Violet's deep brown eyes. "When we lost her, i knew i would be okay though because she wasn't the only one i loved."
Violet furrowed her brows and looked at her dad.
"I had you Violet." He took her hand and squeezed it. His eyes were glassy and shimmering with tears. Violet pulled him into a tight hug. "I love you too, dad."
