I sat in the drivers seat and Ag sat in the passengers with the blindfold laid over her eyes. She was getting impatient and fidgety not knowing where we were going.
"Just tell me already!" she whined.
"No ma'am. That'll just ruin the surprise" I teased. I knew she was frustrated with me but I didn't want to spoil the fun. She scoffed and slapped my thigh where her hand rested just before that.
I drove the rest of the way with Ag griping in my ear. Damn the girl can whine.
I increased my braking speed and came to a complete stop at The Hammonds Park. Everyone at school knows about this park, it's where everyone goes on dates and hangs out and hooks up. Ag and I once made fun of the weird affinity and tradition that school groomed this park to be so I figured I'd troll the bitch just for a second. And you know then I'd get all soft and cutesy.
"Okayyy we're hereee" I sing-songed
"Finally! Can I take it off now?!"
"Mm... sure I guess so."
Ag ripped of the blindfold and readjusted her vision. Her face fell when she realized we were in the hammonds park.
"Really? This is the surprise? Hammonds?" she said playfully but with a hint of disappointment.
"Yup I thought we could live out the tradition" I said playing into her disappointment.
My phone vibrated with a textWestie🤠:
We heres luvPerfect.
Ag and I walked into the park enclosure, just strolling on the side walk passing some teenagers from our school by along the way. I felt the burning of Ag's unsatisfied facial expressions as she walked alongside me.
"What's the matter Edge? Is this not what you wanted?" I made a puppy dog face. I called her edge because I knew she hated it when I pronounced her name like that. She made a face and what it looked to be a roll of her eyes. I know this girl did not just-Before miss edge could give me any more attitude, we approached Weston and.... Sadie! Weston's arm draped around Sadie's shoulders as they engaged in conversation followed with a little peck on the lips. They sat on a pale green checkered blanket with a picnic basket anchoring it down onto the freshly cut grass. If you hadn't noticed already I got Weston and Sadie together. They were just too cute not to.
Ag took in the scene the looked back over to my smiling face. "AWH YOU DID NOT" she yelled. Usually when people come to hammonds they don't do any thing special or cutesy so I wanted to change that.
"Oh but I did lover" I puckered my lips.
She ran over to the blanket and greeted Weston and Sadie, as she was pretty decent friends with both of them.
We both sat down and made ourselves comfortable. Sadie opened up the basket and set out our meal, fruit, sandwiches, crackers, pasta and potato chips. We began eating.
"You two look you had fun last night.." Sadie said jokingly, gazing at my distracting neck and thighs. Weston and Ag snickered. "Indeed we did" Ag said tucking the hair behind my ear. My cheeks flushed with red as I chuckled and bit my bottom lip.
I opened up the container of fruit and fished out a slice of pineapple to eat.
"So what's your favorite type of cheese?" Weston said.
"What kind of weird ass question is that?" Sadie hollered.
"I don't know there's many different types of cheeses!" he defended. "Probably mozzarella, I like to eat it out of the bag. Yours?" I giggled. "Probably like spray can cheese" Weston said lazily.
"Spray can cheese?! What in fucks name-" Ag laughed.Ag's phone buzzed uncontrollably, when she picked it up she made a weird face I've never seen before.
"Gimme a sec I gotta answer this" She got up with her phone and walked away from the group. I didn't pay any mind to it, if it was important she'd tell me, so I continued our conversation about crackers with Weston and Sadie. "But I feel like saltines are just so good, they go best with spray can cheese" Weston said. "sAlTiNeS aRe sO gOod, get outta here with that! It's Ritz! Damn fool.." I laughed. "But they are!" he defended once more. "I think we've proven that you just have weird taste my love." I remarked. Briefly after Sadie guffawed "You two are ridiculous" causing us all to fall into a fit of laughter.I glanced at my phone screen for the time and realized how long it had been and Ag was still on the phone. I wonder what it's about now. I turned around to get her attention and mouthed you okay? to her. To which she shot out of her worried state and held out a thumbs up in efforts to not worry me. I turned back and tried not to think about it. I continue picking at the plate of pasta in front of me.
After what felt like hours, Ag finally got off of the phone. I wonder what was so important for her to miss our date?
She hung up the phone and walked back over to us.
"God I thought I'd die before you came back. What was that about" I whispered loud enough for her to hear but mumbled the last part.
"Well here I am and here you are alive. Let's finish eating." Ag said and smiled a little uncomfortably ignoring the latter of my question.
She sat down and picked up a fork for the plate of pasta I had prepared for her earlier.Later we were all tired and decided it was a suitable time to end the double date and go home.
"Bye we'll see you at school!"
There was a grand amount of unspoken tension between Ag and I in the car and I really didn't know how to bring it up. I looked up at the street signs and noticed we were almost home.
"So.. What happened on the phone?" I hesitated.
"Nothing too important. Just some college stuff I had to handle"
"I forgot you have college soon."
In that moment, it dawned on me. Ag would be leaving soon I have no clue how I would handle that. Lesbians do long distance all the time, Ag's friend Mia was doing long distance with her girlfriend Lyric. But I don't know how Ag and I could go from being by each other's side every second of every day to seeing each other maybe once every week.
"You're going to state right? In the fall?"
"Well.. not exactly.."
"What?! Where are you going?"
"UF.. In Florida"
"Florida?!"
I was shocked. I thought Ag would be going to UTSA. This means I'd really never get to see her.I have no idea how to start this authors note but let me lead with i'm sorry lmao. Over quarantine i've lost ALL concept of time and work ethic lemme tell you. I also just lost motivation to continue but i figured i couldn't leave you guys hanging.
