"And furthermore, homework should be banned because it stresses students out if they do not understand the task." Die-chan uses his air of authority to his advantage.

"Well your arguments are strong." Azumane Asahi comments.

"And I can't poke a hole in your grammar." I chime in.

"But the vocabulary is pretty standard." Sugar-chan shakes his head sadly. Daichi had drawn the short straw and had to read his speech about banning homework for his final English exam. Asahi and Sugar-chan are going to do rock paper scissors to decide who goes next.

"We will have to go over it and change the blah words." I make note of that.

"Rock! Paper! Scissors!" The two remaining boys chant.

It's Asahi's turn. He tosses a crumpled sheet of paper at Sugar-chan. The surprisingly fragile third year student produces an emotional declaration as to why homework is unimportant. He is clearly the volleyball team's ace. Asahi has the sort of "trust me, put your faith in me" vibe to him, particularly when making speeches. His grammar was iffy. Not that I wanted to interrupt such a heartfelt speech.

I scribble a note to help Asahi with his grammar.

Sugar-chan is the last one to go. His speech is pro-homework. It's almost...mum-ish. He's acting motherly. His choice of words are much more feminine. Considerably more adjectives are being used in Sugar-chan's speech.

"His notes are in Japanese...?" Asahi takes the paper from Sugar-chan's hands, intrigued.

"This sounds like something my mum would say, Suga." Daichi chuckles.

"Not in a patronising way! You don't sound like my mum!" Asahi spots Sugar-chan's crumpled expression.

"And not in the not understanding way, like my mum!" I assure.

"Or the distant, yeah yeah yeah mum." Daichi looks guilty.

"You're speaking like you understand the pains of homework but know what it can do for you." I explain.

"If anybody understands that, it's Suga." Daichi nods.

"Huh?" I tilt my head like a confused puppy.

"He's had offers. From some really good schools, despite not being the captain of a team, his methods were spotted at our matches last year." Asahi states. "Daichi has too. Their methods rely on each other."

I nod. "If all of your seniors are cracking down at you, then the sport isn't fun."

"Exactly." Asahi nods.

"Koushi? Is Asha-chan in there? Her parents have dinner ready for her!" Suga's mum asks from the hallway, why couldn't they come to the door?

I get to my feet. "I'll stop by after dinner." I bow before leaving.

...

Seriously? My parents suck! "You're forcing yourself on Sugarwawa Cushy"! That's rubbish!

" It's been too long since I've had to climb down ivy." I mutter.

Ivy climbsa the majority of the house. I can climb back to my room using it. My parents won't be happy...if I get caught.

Once I land on the lawn, I turn and see Sugar-chan and his friends smooshed up against the window, each wearing mortified expressions.

I knock on Sugar-chan's door. He opens it and drags me inside. The three boys begin to yell at me for reckless behaviour.

"You could have called! I would have put you on speaker!" Sugr-chan shouts.

"He's being the mum friend again." Daichi mutters. Too bad Asahi is just as fearful. He, despite not knowing me for a whole day, is chiding me as if I were a little sibling of his.

"You're going to break Asahi's glass heart." Sugar-chan chuckles.

"Glass hearted..." My eyes widen. He must get so hurt by stereotypes, and with such fragile strength...

"I'm so sorry! I'll go now! I'll...I'll call you after I sneak in!" I bow my head.

...

"And that, Suga, is how to reduce the flowery-ness of your adjectives!" I enthuse.

"Thank you Asha-chan!" The trio chime.

"I'll see you soon okay? I have to unpack." I smile at my phone.

This room shall be unpacked tonight!

I guess I should just be glad to have reduced the mum-ish speech down. I just hope that my advice works in their exam.

I stare at the plethora of random stuff that we took to Japan. And groan, time to get started.
