Lifeguard

********** Jo's POV********

Growing up in Australia going to the beach was a regular thing to do, it still is. I learned to surf when I was 7 and have done it for fun ever since. The weather and tides are supposed to be wonderful today,so I got up early to head to the beach.

Once I arrive at the beach I can see it's not very crowded yet but there are a few surfers already out catching the morning wave. I also see the lifeguard is already seated in his station for the day . The waves look fantastic and it's not long before I'm prepping my board.

"Hey Jo!" I hear someone yell. I look up to see that it's my friend Leo.

"Hey Leo! Catching the morning waves?" I ask

"Of course the waves look the best the have in a long time!" Leo states

"I know I can't wait to get out there! I haven't surfed in a hot second." I say as I finish my board prep.

"Ok well we'll see you out there!" Leo says as he runs into the water

I follow quickly behind once I put my wet suit fully on and grab my board.

The water has the morning briskness to it but I quickly get used to it as I hop on top of my board. I use my arms to paddle out and stand up to quickly catch the incoming wave. I'm not a pro by any means but I have spent a life time surfing so I can do some pretty snazzy tricks. I take in wave after wave,riding them up,down, in and out.

I decide to be ambitious and ride the massive wave that is coming my wave. Suddenly though I slip from my board and crash into the water. The power of the wave knocks me deep and my wet suit is caught on something. I look down to see that my leg is stuck on some coral. I reach down and I'm able to unattach myself. When I swim up though I'm knocked right back under by another powerful wave. I can't breathe, suddenly my swimming skills are gone. I'm panicking and feel myself start to go unconscious. Before I black out I feel someone grab me and pull me to the surface.

I slowly open my eyes and find myself in a strange room that I don't recognize. I have a pounding headache to add to the confusion.

Where am I? What happened? How do I get out of here?

"Hey, you're up" A strange man says.

"Um yeah....where am I?" I ask the man

"You're in the lifeguard suite" the man states. It's now that I realize how handsome the man who I know assume is a lifeguard is. Hes very tall, brown short hair, and wow those green eyes. He can't be much older than me.

"Hey you still with me?" He ask snapping me out of my thoughts

"Um yeah I'm sorry I'm having a bit of an issue of remembering how I got here?" I state confused

" Well you were out on your surfboard and you fell off. You couldn't get back up, you were drowning" He says worried

"And you saved me... and brought me here" I say

"Yeah" he says giving me a soft smile

"Well um thank you..... what's your name?" I ask realizing he hasn't told me his name

"Hero....my names Hero"

This guy has to be joking...his name is Hero?

"And yes I'm serious my name is Hero" he says observing my facial expression

"Well then um thank you Hero, I've been surfing my whole life and that's never happened before I got caught on something and just couldn't get back to the surface." Stating what I do remember.

"It's no problem I was just doing my job, I'm glad you're ok" Hero says

Wait is that a British accent?

"What your name?" Hero adds

I look at him confused

"Well I told you mine, I think I should know the name of the beautiful lady I saved is" he blushes and looks away avoiding eye contact

"Oh um my name is Josephine. Most people call me Jo though" I smile

"Well Jo like I said before I'm glad you're ok. Do you need anything like aspirin or something like that?" Hero asks as he walks back towards me

"Um some aspirin would be great kind of have a killer headache" I say giving a soft chuckle

He smiles and walks over to a sink area grabbing bottle of aspirin and a bottle of water.

"Thank you" I smile once again as he hands me the items

"You're welcome" he smiles a beautiful smile. Wow he has the cutest dimples.

"Need anything else before you leave?" He asks

"Um....." do I go for it? He so cute...ugh

"Can I buy you dinner or ice cream or something.....as a thanks of course" I stutter

His face immediately lights up at my words.

"I mean I was just doing my job but that would be great" he states

I sigh in relief of non rejection

"Ok how about tonight?" I ask

"Ok yeah, um I guess you'll need my number then" he says finding a paper and pen

"Ok thank you.... I will text you soon." I smile as I finally stand up and walk toward the exit

"I look forward to it Josephine" he smiles

"Bye" I smile as I walk out the door.
