Daryl felt calmer. For now. Jodie was lying with him in his cell, on his cot, sleeping. He had carried her to his cell and laid her there on his bed. Jodie didn't wanted to be alone, had clung to him. So he layed with her in silence, taking her in his arms. She had her face buried in his chest and her arms tightly wrapped around him. Daryl had caressed her hair in silence, also held her firmly in his arms. When she finally fell asleep, he pressed her a little harder to him. He had misjudged Roderick, again. He had underestimated how cruel a person, even a teenager, could be just to get what he wanted.
Daryl looked at Jodie again with guilt, he had promised Cole that nothing would happen to her. He had promised it to Jodie and to himself, and yet he was about to lose her.
And he didn't want to lose her, never, she was ...
Yeah, what? What was Jodie exactly? His girl, his child. The child he was responsible for, for which he would now give his life.
At some point, Daryl fell asleep with Jodie in his arms. When he was woken up a few hours later by Michonne, he saw Cole standing next to her, both of whom looked worried. Even if he could see something else in Michonne, surprise and affection, affection for holding Jodie in his arms. He was so worried about her. Daryl only growled when he noticed her gaze, stood up quietly not to wake Jodie and followed the two, still covering Jodie up with the blanket.
After Rick Daryl and Cole had explained the incident yesterday, it was a miracle that Daryl had not immediately gone looking for Roderick and his father to rip them into tiny pieces. He was so angry and gave into to his anger, even the meek Cole seemed about to explode.
"What's that idiot actually thinking?! That this is a crappy kindergarten, where he can mark his territory?! "Daryl roared.
"He would have killed Jodie! "Cole also hissed.
"I know, and believe me, I would have liked to kill him yesterday, but that wouldn't have helped. That's why I put him, his friends and his dad in the holding cells. We still have to decide what to do with them, and that's only possible if we keep a clear head," Rick tried to calm them down.
"And what are we supposed to do with them now? Kick them out? "Cole finally asked.
"I could think of a couple things! "Daryl growled.
"I know you'd rather kill them than kick them out, but ... "Rick started, but Daryl interrupted him.
"It's the least what I would do. If it was up to me, I'd like to cut them open let them bleed, or I'll just show them what it's like to be drowned, "he growled angrily.
"Believe me, Daryl, I'd feel the same way, but we wouldn't be better than them. And what gives us the right to kill someone who wanted to kill someone else? We're not even sure if he really wanted to kill her or if he just wanted to break her."
"If Roderick does something like that, he's gonna have to expect Jodie could drown. And when someone kills one of our people, he poses a threat, and the threat must be eliminated," Cole also agreed.
Daryl and Rick looked at him, and this line sounded very much like Shane when they had to deal with Randall and they had argued what they would do with him.
"Then we wouldn't be any better," Rick said again, and
"And if we drop him off somewhere and he comes back? Maybe with a group this time? "Cole asked.
"We blindfold him and drive so far that he can't find his way back," Rick suggested.
"Maybe we should just let her decide," Daryl said quietly.
"What? "
„Let's Jodie decide what to do with them. I mean, that her life, we talking about. What if he really drowned her? What if she had turned? Then she would have become a danger to us, too," Daryl said.
