Jodie instinctively followed her ears towards the screams. Finally, she saw what the problem was. A young woman in her late twenties lay on the floor, her foot caught in a bear trap. And in front of her stood a man who threatened her with a knife.
"Just hold still," he roared at her and she screamed even louder.
Jodie wanted to make herself known, but then decided to hide behind a tree and assess the situation. Who knew what the relationship between the two was. In the end, the guy was probably still her boyfriend and if she had to kill him, she would have problems with the woman later.
"Leave me alone ! I don't need you," the woman, though, just yelled at him.
But instead of helping her out of the trap or even respecting her wish, he punched her hard in the face and she fell to the ground.
"You cannot survive without me! You are nothing out there! Do you hear? Nothing!" he shouted at her and grabbed her by the hair.
Jodie decided that it was enough now. That he was clearly acting against the will of the woman.
She thought. Assessed the situation.
The man was so caught up in his rage and turned his back on her that she could have easily finished him off from behind. However, she still didn't know what connection they had to each other and so she didn't necessarily have to kill him. So she put her knife away and reached for the crossbow. She could also shoot him, but the crossbow was sturdy and heavy enough to give him a strong swing so that he would be unconscious and couldn't hurt anyone.
She sneaked up on him, and when the man bent down to the woman, she gave him a violent blow to the back of the head with the crossbow. The man fell like a chopped down tree and landed next to the woman on the forest floor.
The woman looked at the attacker in amazement and astonishment and looked up at Jodie. Jodie looked at her silently for a moment, then she got down on her knees next to her and examined the trap in which the woman was trapped.
The woman had apparently been very lucky in her misfortune. Because of her high bootleg, the bear trap didn't penetrate the skin deeply. Jodie took her pistol, turned the silencer on the barrel and skillfully shot the trap open. The trap released around her leg and the woman pulled it out of the trap. Without waiting, Jodie pushed the boot off her leg and examined her leg.
In the meantime the woman seemed to have found her voice again.
"Thanks," she said to Jodie. She gave her a quick sideways glance and nodded her head.
She inspected the leg more closely. The boot had mostly prevented the sharp points from coming off and the wounds were only superficial. They bled, but not severely. Jodie silently began to take a bandage from her backpack and wrapped it around the woman's leg, which she now looked at more closely.
"I'm Ashley by the way, but you can call me Ash," she calmly said to her. Jodie didn't reply. But she could clearly hear the curiosity and at the same time the suspicion coming from the woman's voice.
Understandable. After all, not everyone saves these days without some ulterior motive.
"What's your name?" Ashley asked her. Jodie finished wrapping the bandage around her leg before she looked at her and checked her out herself. The woman was wearing a camouflage army jacket. Her long, dark blond years were tied back and her light blue eyes shone attentively at Jodie.
Next to her was a hunting rifle and Jodie could recognize other weapons by her backpack. From her watchful gaze, Jodie could tell she must have been through quite a lot. She knew the dangers here. And even though Jodie didn't know her, she had the opinion that this woman could survive.
