'This is awkward', sitting in between two guys who have seen me naked and being stared down by an old vampire, the grandfather of the softest boy in the vampire community. It was surprising that someone so cheerful could be related to such a grumpy man but then again I'm related to a raging psychotic bitch and thankfully I'm not that psychotic.
"I would like to congratulate you, Kaname, on the fine job you are doing here at Cross Academy. Keeping everything and everyone in check." Ichio praised in a stale voice.
"Thank you Ichio, but it isn't all my doing. Alexis plays a great role in keeping the peace with me." Kaname corrected, placing a hand on my knee while his eyes stayed on Ichio.
"Yes, you both are doing a fine job here as expected of a Kuran and a Hio." The name 'Hio' caused my shoulders to tense up. That name is bad luck and that's not who I am, I won't be that even if my mother was one. Shizuka had ruined it for me.
"Excuse me, Sir Ichio, but I am an Airay despite my Hio blood." I said with a tight lip smile.
Ichio looked at me with cold eyes, but there was a gleam of recognition in them. "I see. I will make note to refer to you by that, though Airays are of a lesser half in the pureblood status chart than an Hio or Kuran." Sensing the anger boiling in my vein at the older male's insult, Kaname hardened his grip on my knee to keep me from attacking.
"Actually, I would like to make a request to the Senate and yourself." Kaname calmly interjects, taking Ichio's attention off me. "I wish for you to no longer have any affairs concerning Cross Academy. Like my late parents wish to have no more bloodshed, also considering what Alexis has been through I assume she agrees." All three men turned back to me for confirmation.
"I do agree. This academy was built to prove that both vampires and humans can co-exist. It may not be all sunshine and daisies and cloudy days will pour conflict like recently.." I trailed to avoid speaking the incident aloud, before locking eyes with Ichio. "Yet it's up to us to make a difference. These are new times, Sir, we need to move out of the dark ages and into a new light."
We stared each other down for a moment, Ichio probably thinking his gaze would stir me into submission but I was not going to kneel to a man that openly badmouths my family. Ichio reluctantly caved in first, leaning back into his seat. "Let's just hope this new light does not burn us in the end like recently. But you are right Miss Airay. These are new ages we are living in, some the late Kurans and your late mother were very passionate about before their deaths. So, we the Senate have decided to stop our pursuit on Zero Kiryu for the time being." I felt a tick of confusion at the mention of them hunting Zero, since I was never told about this. I glared at Kaname, who directed himself to the car window. "For now, let's enjoy the Gala since I heard the rest of the Airays are coming too, out of their hiding." Ichio said, gaining my attention.
'What grudge does this guy have against my parents?' I thought, folding my hands in my lap, discreetly pushing Kaname's hand off my knee that refused to leave this whole ride. "We're just very private people and they're very protective of me."
"Yes, as they should be since you're a high-status pureblood." Ichio nodded. "How lucky you are to have people like them and Kaname here to protect you."
The way he said it sent a shiver down my spine and for once the man kind of scared me. He said it as if that protection was the only thing keeping me alive and safe. But I still didn't know what I needed to be safe from, Shizuka is dead and my parents said that Rido man was gone so what was it? What was this man talking about?
The rest of the car ride remained silent until we arrived at the Gala's hidden spot. Ichio stepped out before saying he had to meet with the other Senate members that would be attending while Kaname, Ichijou, and I made our way to the back entrance. Walking to it, we found the path being blocked off by Kain, Aido, and Ruka staring down at something.
The trio parted the way for us to get a view of Yuki the Thot passed out on the ground. "Troublesome, girl." Kaname sighed, glaring down at the disgrace in annoyance. Maybe if she irritates him enough, he'll finally allow me to kill her.
My excitement was quickly filled with a sad awkward feeling in the presence of Kain, who was standing next to the girl he was in love with. Thinking about that detail squeezed my heart. Aido looked between Kain's seemingly emotionless features to my afflicted ones and opened his mouth to say something but Ichijou beats him to it.
"Oh my! The Gala will be in full swing soon and we need to get you into your dress." Ichijou gasped linking his arm through mine as he began dragging me away, waving to the trio backhandedly. "See you later guys!"
"Thanks, Ichijou, you're an angel." I said, once we were a good distance. "I thought I was going to die from the teenage heartbreak."
"No problem. What are friends for." He chirped, injecting a warmth into my bones.
'Friend? That actually sounds really nice to hear.'
THIRD POV
Kain, Aido, and Ruka stood off to the side observing the aristocrats mingling among themselves, sharing the latest gossip and insulting others behind their backs.
"I wonder what the Senate members are doing here?" Aido pointed out when his blue eyes landed on Ichio sitting in a throne like chair as if he owned the place instead of someone of pureblood status.
"Probably extra protection after what happened." Kain guessed, his amber eyes continuing to glance around the room because a part of him was looking for Alexis.
"If so, why is he here?" Aido grumbled, bringing attention to the silver haired hunter leaning against one of the back walls, scowling at every vampire that walked by. He was still crossed by his harshness towards Alexis and slightly jealous by all the attention she had given him.
"To help in the silly notion that vampires and humans can co-exist." Ruka scoffed, pulling her shawl closer around herself. "Like Lord Kaname and that Cross girl. Did you see her causing him trouble yet again? That Airay Princess is no better. It's hers and that hunter's fault we need this extra protection."
"How dare you! Don't compare Lexi-chan to someone as weak as Yuki Cross." Aido snapped, his lips curling in disgust. He peeked at Kain to see his reaction, but it was blank. "And it's not her fault she has a lunatic for a sister."
"She might be a lunatic herself, and a traitor to her own kind for protecting that prefect-"
"Ruka, stop talking." Kain ordered coldly, causing her eyes to wide in surprise since he had never been that cold to her. It surprised Aido also since Kain had told him all about how he had broken up with Alexis because of his feelings for Ruka but he was starting to think that wasn't the whole truth. "Who are your parents talking to Hanabasa? Never seen them before."
Aido twisted his head over to see an attractive couple conversating with his father. They seemed familiar but he wasn't sure. "Neither have I..."
"Is that them?" They heard some of the aristocrats whispering. "The Airays?"
"It is. I haven't seen any of them since Asagi Hio's funeral."
"They've been in hiding for so long."
"Well, since the truth is out it figures they'd be too."
"That's Lexi-chan's parents?!" Aido exclaimed, "No wonder they looked familiar.."
"You've seen them before?" Ruka asked.
"Only for a second. They came over one time for a short visit." Aido said, a melancholic smile licking his lips. "I actually met Lexi-chan with them, but it was so long ago I doubt she remembers." He forced a laugh to cover up his emotions. "I have no clue how she could forget someone as incredible as me." The new information Aido provided, fueled the dusty gears in Kain's memory. "You okay Atasuki?" His cousin asked noticing the increasing silence from the strawberry blonde.
"I'm fine." He answered, while his mind replayed a lost memory of the girl he truly loves.
