Dan

"Stacy...!" I called as I struggled to stay afloat. "I c..cwan't."

"Dan!" A male voice echoed. Amidst the loud burbling of the river I can hear him panting. "Si Stacy sa likod mo!"

Stacy? Was that Ryan calling me? I'm sinking. You don't get it Ryan. I can't swim. But Stacy. Stacy. I'm sorry. If only I can.

"Ayoko nga pumunta!" Dan crossed his arms as he looked outside the car window to his right.

"Hindi ka na bata Dan, you're already 12." His mom told him from the driver's seat. "It's an important life skill."

"I don't need to learn it anyways." He argued. "Marami pa sana akong magagawang ibang bagay this summer kaysa mag swimming lessons."

His mom didn't argued back. She knows that Dan always has something to reply immediately. He may be a quiet child most of the time but he does have some moments that makes him talkative.

They arrived at a swimming resort. Her mom had some errands to run for the day so he immediately kissed Dan goodbye before leaving him.

That's convenient. Dan thought to himself. Might as well just sit here and do nothing for the rest of the day.

He took out his Nintendo DS and sat on a chair by a small canteen. It was slightly close to the pool where he was supposed to be so he can still hear what's going on with the lessons.

There was a roll call and the instructor proceeded on calling out the names. "Dan Hargreaves? Dan Hargreaves? Absent?"

Dan took a glance at the pool. The instructor roamed his eyes elsewhere around the vicinity of the pool. When he looked towards Dan, he immediately lifted his DS back up to cover his face.

The instructor didn't bother to look for him and just marked him absent for the day. He then proceeded with the rest of the list.

"Tumakas ka rin?" A girl's voice came from behind him. Dan immediately looked behind him surprised. "You're Dan Hargreaves right?"

"Paano mo nalaman?" He asked her confused. "Tumakas saan? What are you talking about."

The girl tucked her blonde hair behind her ear. "Tumingin ka sa kanila nang tinawag pangalan mo at tumago nang tiningnan ka ng nagtuturo." She grinned.

Dan sighed. "Isusumbong mo ba ako?" he asked.

"Hindi ah." She replied, sitting on a chair beside him. "Tumakas din naman ako hehe."

"Loka ka talaga." He chuckled as he turned his DS off. "Ano pangalan mo? Bat ka tumakas? Ayaw mo rin bang matuto lumangoy?"

"Stacy Sanchez, nice to meet you." She offered her hand and he accepted it. They then shook their hands. "Hindi ko na kailangan matuto, marunong na ako lumangoy." She smiled.

"Stacy Sanchez? Stacy Sanchez?" The instructor called by the pool. "Absent din? Ano ba yan unang araw pa lang."

They both laughed at the troubled instructor. "Hahaha, eh bakit nandito ka pa kung marunong ka naman?"

"Ugh, gusto akong ipasali ni tita sa swimming tournaments," she explained. "Eh ayoko naman, natuto lang namana ko maglangoy para mas maenjoy ko maligo sa pool or sa beach. Ikaw ba, ayaw mo ba matuto?"

"I don't really want to learn." He turned her down.

"Kahit ang basics lang? Para mas maenjoy mo magswimming," she tried to convince him. "Gusto mo turuan pa kita ngayon na?"
