"Who are you and what are you doing here?" a gruff voice woke me from my reverie and interrupted my musings.
Ah, fuck the heavens. Of all the people, this guy happened to be the one who catches me. What luck.
I cursed under my breath and slowly turned aroud, arms raised, as I face the man who instantly pointed a sword to my neck.
Blatantly ignoring the fact that he could strike at any moment, I smiled faintly and reached for my robes.
My action, in the eyes of that person - the Captain of the Royal Guards - was quickly deemed as suspicious that he pressed the blade to my neck until he nicked my skin. Blood instantly flowed from that wound staining the robes I borrowed from Sagara.
"Who are you?" he repeated again, more menacingly this time as if asserting his dominance over me.
It was futile, of course, since I wasn't even scared. How can he scare me when I saw him pee his pants in fright several years before he ascended to his station?
That same scene still brought tears to my eyes every time I recall it.
Anyway, when I found what I was looking for, I flashed the item to his face and watched in amusement as his eyes go wide in disbelief.
"W-why do y-you have that?"
By now, his eyes were filled with even more suspicion. My alteration of appearance was too successful that even him did not recognize me.
I did not answer and instead smiled more widely, as if camellias and peonies can grow on my very own smile.
That person grunted and pulled my collars harshly, bringing me closer and pressing his sword even deeper to my neck.
By now the tangy smell of blood fill my nose and I can fell a stinging sensation to my neck, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. I was more wounded it battle before anyway.
Besides, there is no greater pain than not being able to accompany the person you love and watching him marry another woman.
I think that kind of pain couldn't be measured. Atleast this one is comparable to being bitten by an ant.
I wanted to push this guy to his limits but he might kill. Well, he can try but I doubt he can.
And so I decided to end the fun and called his name.
"Aleff."
When he heard my voice, his habds instantly loosened from my clothes. He staggered back, his expression that of disbelief, and finally dropped to his knees.
The sound of his joints hitting the ground sent my teeth clattering and brought me great pain. I still can't get used to this kind of subservience.
"My lady—"
"Quiet now, Aleff."
"But—"
"The shadow guards—"
Aleff shook his head and sighed.
"—are beside His Majesty right now. Please, My Lady, rest assured that we are the only ones here right now."
"—I see..."
I craned my head to look outside but was immediately greeted by the sight of blood flowing more aggressively to my chest.
