Asami stood in front of the school, her heart pounding furiously. She was both nervous and excited. Never in her 15 years of living would she expect to gain a scholarship, let alone attend a prestigious school like Ouran.
She took a deep breath, helping her calm down. Asami began heading towards the high doors, ignoring all the whispering around her. With each step, her nervousness returned. She gazed at all the passing students. It was as clear as day that she didn't belong here. While each gender student had an expensive uniform, she didn't.
Before she left for school, she didn't think she looked too bad. Now all she wanted to do is go back to her past self and smack her across the head!
A soft sigh passed through her tinted lips as she glanced down at her attire. She wore a plain long-sleeved gray shirt with a pair of jeans. Her shoes were your average black sketchers.
Then it hit her.
How long has she been walking? It felt like an eternity. It felt like no matter how many steps she took she would get nowhere near the school. Why was the front yard so large?! Just how long would it take-
Asami forced herself to stop guessing how many steps she has left. Her mind ended up pondering about how she got into this mess in the first place.

It was another ordinary day for Maede, Asami. She was painting in her school's art room. It was a regular thing for Asami to stay after school to paint.
Her parents and the school was fine with it.
The school had no problem because her artistic skills were one of the school's pride. Time to time she would get one of her art pieces featured at exhibitions, one time she even got one of her pieces accepted into a museum. However, she still needed a lot to learn about art.
She stopped herself from gloating about her painting skill and focused on her newest piece.
A few minutes passed, a sluggish sigh escaped her lips. She set down her supplies on the closest table.
Asami stared at the canvas in front of her, a small smile adorned her face. She felt a pleasing feeling trickle down her spine. A sense of pride filled her chest. Then a tinge of sorrow. Her smile became bitter.
She painted this piece because she wanted something to remind her of her late elder sister. Asami remembered it like it was yesterday, her sister's last moments-
Asami knew she wasn't over the death of her sister, probably never will, but she was healing.
The ebony-haired girl stepped off her stool and trotted towards her still supplies. She grabbed the messy palette and brushes and headed to the sink.
She placed the tools in the sink and turned on the faucet. The loud sound of rushing water muted the noise of the opening door."-and this is our school's art room. Oh, Maede-san! Finished with your newest piece?" Asami's shoulders tensed after hearing an unexpected voice. Her shoulders relaxed after seeing it was just her art teacher.
Her relief was short-lived, next to her carefree teacher was Souh Yuzuru.
What?
Asami immediately turned off the faucet, placed the art supplies back to there spots, and bowed to the older man. A slight smile graced the aged man. She stopped bowing and glanced at her teacher, he gave her a lazy grin which confused her.
"Your teacher here has told me a few things about you. It seems he was telling the truth about your talent." A faint blush appeared on her face, embarrassed at the thought of what her teacher might have told the influential man.
Asami gave a smaller bow and said a simple 'thank you'. The man nodded and walk passed the teenage girl. Her teacher followed in pursuit. Asami felt a bit nervous. Why was he eyeing the painting so intently?! She wasn't planning on showing this painting to anyone other than her family! What if he wants to take away her memorial of her sister!
Asami felt a little panicked at what the rich man might do.
She snapped out of her internal panic and forced herself to calm down, which worked. Asami glanced at her teacher, he was also in a panic, waiting in anticipation for what the man will say next. Asami felt a glimmer of joy fill her heart. Her art teacher was so nice.
"Is there a story behind this painting?" The man asked curiously. Asami hesitantly nodded, not expecting to tell a powerful man about her once lovely sister. She took in a deep breath, prepping herself not to tear up.
"Well, um, my older sister passed away," her voice died down a bit unintentionally. "so I created this in her image." Asami's hand raised pointing at her new addition. She glanced at the painting again, feeling that same pain.
"I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure she was a wonderful person," Souh spoke, pity laced in his voice. Asami muttered another thank-you to the man. She felt a pitiful gaze peer into her. She knew it was her art teacher.
"On a lighter note, I have seen talent like this in a while! How would you like to join my school?"
---
After that, her mom and Souh-san discussed the details. A small grimace married onto her face, she recalled the bone-crushing hug her dad gave her when he learned of the news.
Asami was now in front of the doors that would change her future, hopefully for the better. As she climbed up the expensive stairs her heart began to soar with a light feeling.
