Hours of dim light was beginning to take a toll on Sera's reflexes.
She was also starting to doubt the lord's fighting skills.
Someone sprang at her. As she took him out neatly with her sword, she knew she could do nothing about their dying screams. Cederic would know she was coming.
She could barely make out a door at the end of the passage. She decided to make a run for it.
Just as she reached the door, she heard a clang as Lord Cruez tried to take down another guard that had sprung at him.
She couldn't notice anyone else in the passage, she had no time to think, she pushed the door.
Surprisingly, it fell open and a faint light from some hidden torch inside the room fell out into the dark passage.
Sera turned around, the last standing guard took a swing for Lord Cruez's head, she countered, pushing the lord out of the way. Just as she dug her sword into his neck, someone tackled her.
She lost grip of her sword, heard the last screams of the fallen soldier and saw a spear raised to her neck.
The moment she put her hand on the pistol in her belt, a cold hand took hold of it and the spearhead started digging into her throat.
"I'll take that, it's not of any use anyway," Lord Cruez's voice was cold and cruel.
He pushed at Sera to make her stumble backwards into the throne room.
Sera realised that fighting back wasn't the wisest thing to do as she sensed another person walk up behind her.
She felt Cederic's hands on her wrists as he pulled her hands behind her back and put them in chains once again.
Lord Cruez prodded her with the spear to make her turn around and face Cederic.
"She really is a terrific killer," he laughed.
All the kindness seemed to have left him as his voice turned harsh and threatening.
"You acted a little too well. For a minute there I thought you would really let her win." Cederic said glumly.
Then he turned to Sera.
"My love," he said, his voice anything but loving, "you are a threat for us. I thought I could lure you to my side, you almost came too, but now you have seen too much."
Cederic pulled out a pistol.
Sera, tired and defeated, decided to hold her ground till the end. She straightened up even though she felt Lord Cruez prodding at her neck with the spear.
"You can't take over our land by killing me. I'm just the commander." She smiled.
"Your sister will have killed the Lady by now," Lord Cruez said.
"I don't have a sister," said Sera, even though she felt hollow inside.
"See that's why it is so important. This rivalry between us must end. The only way is to end the Rivera blood. Don't you think I am competent enough to kill what will be remaining after we are done killing you?"
Lord Cruez slid beside her his face one huge evil grin.
"You lied to me too!"
"Guess you should have trusted your history lessons more." His voice was hard and emotionless.
Sera began to feel numb. She had really never heard the lord speak this way. She knew she wasn't supposed to be surprised yet she felt betrayed.
"No hard feelings my love," said Cederic, cocking his gun at her head, "this really is for the best."
"I loved you!!!" Sera screamed.
"Family drama," muttered Lord Cruez.
Sera felt the spear leave her neck.
Immediately she spun around lashing at Cederic's gun with the chains behind her back with lightning speed. The gun flew from his hands and Sera kicked him in the shins. As she tried to kick his face, two hands gripped her arms and pulled her away.Sera seethed with rage. She should have never trusted Easton. Cruel, double-crossing creature. She tried to struggle but suddenly it seemed as if the Lord had gained the strength of an army.
Cederic regained his grip, his eyes burning with cruel passion.
"Darling Sera," he spat out in contempt.
"The last time we met, you wanted to die before dishonour. So let's do this old school."He pulled out a dagger from his belt. The diamond on the hilt gleamed menacingly in the flames from the fire torch.
Last ditch, thought Sera as she prepared to fight back one more time.
Just as Cederic advanced with the dagger, the grip on Sera's arm loosened, something clicked near her wrist, she heard Easton whisper "Sera now!" in her ear, she snatched the dagger away from Cederic with both hands and plunged it into his heart.
Cederic bellowed with rage. Then the anger in his eyes changed to horror as Sera used all her strength to push the dagger into him.
She couldn't understand whose side Lord Cruez had been on, she felt like she needed to kill him too.
But as she stabbed Cederic harder and watched him writhing and gasping, the surroundings began to melt away from her. Blood oozed out from Cederic heart and he dropped on the ground. As Sera pulled the dagger out from his body, blood began to spill out everywhere.
Even as she watched, the light dimmed out of Cederic's cruel eyes.
She felt the taste of blood in her mouth and tears in her eyes as she collapsed on the floor.
Is it all over?
Peace
