The woods heralding the beginning of Cruez came into view and Sera brushed all thoughts aside. She twisted Jenna's reins in her left hand and keeping her dagger in her right, she swept her eyes over the landscape. Dismounting, she decided that the only thing to do was to let Jenna go home, it was too risky for her. As the clever horse trotted back, Sera entered the thick wood and came across the ditch over which a pigmy child was standing. The moment he ran away into the deeper parts, Sera knew danger. Nonetheless, she steadied her dagger and jumped over the ditch. Reaching the other side already made her covered with muck but she kept following the child as if he was the answer to her misery. Suddenly her boots scrunched up dry leaves and she knew that this heralded nothing but death-one blow of a whistle, one searing pain and it'd all be over. She hadn't wanted her quest to end like this, how could she have failed Cederic so easily, she knew she had to go through the land of the savage pigmies. She beat herself up as she prepared for imminent death. She shouldn't have let emotions take over her and try to find a quick way of revenge by following the pigmy boy.
The woods were surprisingly still as Sera held her breath and waited. Slowly, she began to ease herself. Maybe no one had heard her after all. Looking around she could not see the boy anywhere. Avoiding the leaf-strewen paths, Sera made her way ahead through a muddy trench.
Following the trench till it ended at a dense clump of trees, Sera climbed up onto dry ground carefully. All her clothes were now completely soiled but she didn't care. Smoke was billowing up from behind the clump and she slid behind a large fern bush and waited. She could not find the child anymore but soon realised that she had travelled long into the woods and she knew not how she would be received by them, as a threat or a guest. There came rhythmic beats of a drum and a low ivory trumpet sounded. The smoke thickened and Sera could no longer contain her curiosity.
She pushed through the trees to get a view when she had the feeling that she was falling into hellfire, "Cederic..," she whispered as her surroundings went black.
