Keefe's Pov

There's nothing to do here. Sure, it's great, living in treehouses and all. But like, legit it's so boring! But... It's not like I can really do anything. The petals and buds are coming in tidal waves now. No one has visited. And I guess I'm fine with that.

"Keefe! It's time for your checkup!"

I groaned. "Can we lay it off for one day, Livvy?"

"No. Now get over here."

"Fine. Be there in a sec." I sat up and was just about to walk over to Livvy when I felt my head spinning. Or, was it the bed spinning? I couldn't tell. My vision was getting a little blurred as well. Probably just a lack of sleep.

"Keefe? You coming?"

I tried to answer, but that's when everything went black.

---

I saw Sophie and Fitz on a hill. No. Where was I? I looked around. Havenfield? Wasn't I just in Alluveterre? Then, I saw something that made my blood run cold. They were kissing. I didn't want to watch, but my eyes were glued to the scene. When they pulled apart, Fitz started laughing.

"You really think I loved you? Think again." He took off his cape to reveal a Neverseen cloak.

Sophie looked startled. "Fitz? No!"

I didn't know what to do. I had to help her. But I couldn't move. Why was I condemned to watch my worst nightmare? "NO!" I started shouting. "Get away from her! Get away-" I felt someone tap me on the shoulder. I opened my eyes. "Who?"

Livvy was looking at me, panicked. "Oh, good. You're awake. Here, drink this." She passed me an elixir.

"What happened? Where's Sophie?"

Livvy raised an eyebrow. How many people were gonna do that to me? I should stop counting. "You're in Alluveterre. I was calling you for your checkup but you never came. I think you fainted from blood loss."

My head hurt a lot. "So, it was just a dream?"

She nodded. "Whatever you were dreaming about must be intense. You were thrashing so much, I could barely get you over here."

I was still rubbing the drowsiness out of my eyes. Then I coughed up more blood flower petals. "They're really bloody now." To say that they were red is an understatement. They were a dark crimson, almost black.

"Don't get me started. Your room looks like ... someone having a wedding and then getting murdered."

"Didn't need the details, but okay."

Then Livvy's face lit up. "Oh! I forgot to tell you. Some of your friends are here."

I shot up out of the bed. "How did they know where I was? Who is it?" I winced at the sudden pain in my head.

"You should stay still for now. Magnate Leto told Dex, Linh, Marella, Tam, and Biana where you were."

"So who's here?"

"All of them."

I groaned. I was not ready to face my friends. Not at all. "Just let them in already. I need to get this over with."

"Oh. Are we a nuisance to you?" Dex had come in and was leaning on the door.

"No! I didn't mean it that way!" I put my hands up in surrender.

"It's ok. Do you want the others to come in?"

"Why not. Open the floodgates."

Dex disappeared for a few minutes. When he came back, he had a tray of mallowmelt, as well as Biana, Tam, Linh, and Marella.

"MALLOWMELT!!" That was all I could shout before I issued a series of coughs. "Actually," I sat up after the coughing. "I think I'll hold off on it for now."

Tam shrugged. "More mallowmelt for us then."

"How are you feeling?" Linh had been standing in the back. I almost forgot she was there.

I groaned. "I guess I'm good?"

"The groan is telling me otherwise." Marella had crossed her arms across her chest.

"Fine. I just fainted like some time ago. Then I started coughing up more petals. Happy?"

No one was happy. That was expected.

"When are you planning on telling Sophie about this? You can't hide it forever." Tam had a wild look in his eyes.

"Aw... Is Bangs Boy worried about me?"

Tam's face twisted into a frown. "Don't make me regret this."

"I think I do that subconsciously." Was that a good thing? Nope. I've let down too many people. I've let Sophie down too many times. I don't even know why she keeps me around. Of course, she'd choose Fitz. Perfect Fitz. Broken me. All my fault.

I was just reconsidering my life and every guilt-worthy decision I've made when my head started hurting. Really badly.

Biana was the first to notice. "Keefe! Keefe! Are you okay?"

"Uh..." I didn't get a chance to answer. The world shattered in front of me.
