He felt sick, her heart was so small and light.
Like a plum pit.
Put it in the bowl Sam
"Oh right, sorry."
He placed the heart in the bowl and it began to froth like a demented tomato soup.
She murmured some words as she stirred it then dropped off the table and dragged her limbs across the wooden floor until she reached Colby.
He held his breath, "Is it working?"
Yes the spell is beginning to take affect, the color is returning to his cheeks.
Sam collapsed heavily into the kitchen chair. His head was spinning but for the first time he felt a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He still had a headache from whatever happened at the graveyard but knowing that Colby was getting better made the pain easy to ignore.
"Thank god"
Still, maybe he should ask Allison.
"Hey umm..are there any side effects to this spell?"
No I told you, your friend will be perfectly healthy once this is complete. It will be like nothing happened.
That didn't really answer his question but Colby would be safe and that was all that mattered. The headache was probably caused by stress anyways, this had been anything but a tropical vacation.
"Where can I find the last ingredient?"
The last ingredient is a human soul.
"How am I supposed to capture a human soul?"
You don't, you release it.
You asked me why I am helping you and I lied. I do want to prove that good spirits exist but I need my freedom to do so. If you set me free I can save your friend and all the other spirits on this island. Then perhaps we can finally move on and join our Father in Heaven.
"Why did you lie to me?"
I needed you to trust me.
I couldn't do this spell without you Sam, it requires human blood of a good heart. Once the spell accepted your blood I lied to you so that you wouldn't back out.
"Allison I still would've helped you if you told me the real reason."
I'm sorry, I couldn't take that chance.
He smiled at her, "It's ok, I promise I'll help you save your friends. You can trust me"
She smiled and again her eyes began to glow.
————————————————————————

"So all I have to do is say this incantation and it'll release your soul?"
Yes, do it over the bowl. Once my soul exits the vessel destroy the doll. This will ensure that no one else can be trapped within it. Then simply serve the mixture to your friend.
"Wait he has to drink this??"
Just think of it as tomato soup.
Her ghostly laugh sent shivers down his spine.
"Right, how long do we have?"
Four hours, if you do not finish the spell your friend and the spirits trapped in those dolls will be sentenced to eternal damnation.
He ran a hand through his hair, "So no pressure."
We're running out of time.
"Ok ya, give me the incantation."
He glanced over at Colby, he looked trapped in an endless sleep. Like in a fairy tale, waiting for his Prince Charming so that he could awaken.
"I'm coming Colby."
He turned back to the bowl and Allison, "I'm ready."
Exorcizamus te
Omnis immundus spiritus
Omnis satanica potestas
Allison's eyes began to burn. Light, pooling out from every crack in the porcelain.
Omnis incursio infernalis adversarii
Omnis legio
It's working!
"Allison are you ok?"
She made a noise that was almost a growl.
Keep. Chanting.
He turned back to the paper.
Omnis congregatio et secta diabolica.
Allison began to float off the floor
Ergo, draco maledicte
Colby followed her and he watched them twirl and spin above his head, interlocked in an eerie dance.
Ecclesiam tuam securi tibi.
Colby's blue eyes pooled with golden light,
Te rogamus.
Sam felt all his hair sticking straight up as sparks flew.
Audi Nos.
"Sam?"
His voice was ripped from him as a sonic boom slammed him backwards into the wall. He was covered in glass and rubble and his ears were ringing.
But he felt no pain.
He stood up slowly, testing each of his muscles and finding nothing broken.
"Sam! Oh god are you ok?"
"Ya I'm-
He watched his best friend run straight past him.
"Fine? Colby I'm right here"
He can't hear you Sam
Colby sifted through the rumble, and his heart sank. Sam was caked in a mixture of dirt and blood, his eyes staring forward blankly.
"Sam? No no please."
"Colby!"
Sam ran towards him, "Listen to me!"
He went to grab Colby's shoulders and passed right through them.
"What the fuck?!"
I told you this would require sacrifice Sam, for the both of us. I lost a perfectly good vessel.
She motioned towards the shards of what used to be the doll.
"Am-Am I dead?"
Yes but your death was not in vain, I'm sure your friend is grateful. As will the souls of my soldiers.
"Your soldiers?"
I told you that I needed to save my brethren, so that we would no longer be taunted and tortured. But heaven isn't ready to accept our kind yet so we must make them ready.
He felt his blood boil, well it would if he had any.
"You lied to me again! I trusted you!
I told you this spell would save your friend, he may be drowning in his own tears but he is alive. I told you it came with sacrifices, and it did-
You never mentioned side effects like oh I don't know DYING.
A minor inconvenience.
"Bring. Me. Back."
As you wish.
Colby lifted Sam's body from the ruins of the shack and set him down in the soft grass near the river bank beside the house, a makeshift grave thousands of miles from home.
"Sam I- I always thought we'd grow old together man. You and I in rocking chairs yelling at kids to stay off the lawn. I wanted to be a cool uncle, smuggling your kids candy and helping them sneak out of the house to explore without Kat knowing. Oh god Kat-" his voice cracked and he cleared his voice before he continued. "I wanted to be your best man, I'd throw you the best damn bachelor party and you'd be hungover until the wedding." He let out a pained laugh, "We had our whole future ahead of us Sam and now I don't know how..I don't know if I want to do it without you."
Don't worry that decision has already been made for you.
Colby's eyes widened
"Who the fuck are you?!"
He dropped to his knees.
I saved your life and now I'm going to take it from you.
"No!" Sam screamed helplessly, he was a prisoner in his own mind.
Allison laughed
You've made your choice Sam, now relax and enjoy the show.
