REGRET WAS A STONE COLD KILLER IN THE FACE OF THE PRESENT. Nothing was as deadly as dwelling on the past; and regret meant just that. Something Persephone could not afford to do. Unfortunately for her, the cost of regret remained priceless, and it was stocked in such a colossal abundance it could swallow the Seven Kingdom's whole.

. . .A FEW YEARS PRIOR.

Persephone could not recall a time in her life where she had been as scared as she was at present. Both her parents remained imprisoned and left vulnerable in the brutal lion's den of the Lannister's, neither friend nor foe making an effort to see any change to that―they could wither and rot in those cells for all the people of King's Landing cared. And those who did care did so in the comfort of safety, uttering not a single syllable, or lifting a steady gold-filled hand to save the last remaining strand of hope, of faith and goodness in all of the Seven Kingdom's.

The eldest Salem twins sat side by side in front of the rancid cells beneath the palace. The dirty, straw-covered ground gave no comfort to parent or child, only the smothering cloudiness of the future fuelled them like fire as they peered at each other through the scant lighting. "You must both leave. Head back for the Obsidian Isles, you'll be safe there." their mother, Adorella, whispered―desperation clinging to her voice like the translucent waters of Dorne on cotton clothing, her hands paling with intensity as she gripped the iron bars that separated her from her children. Niklaus nodded from beside her, hope draining from his deep mocha eyes as the end drew dangerously near.

"What―no. We are not leaving you." Persephone announced with furious finality, arms folding themselves against her dark green dress. Her face morphed into a pained frown as raw anger dripped like acid from her face; the pain of 19 years of living rising like bile in her throat as she battled against the odds in her mind―she would remain loyal til the very end, and if that meant signing her own death warrant by sticking with her family, so be it.
