Maddox was pretty much one hundred times better the next day, but it took about three for him to be back to normal, well about as normal as he was.  Maddox had also informed me we would be having dinner guests this evening, but not to worry. They were ok people. Maddox had told me very little about them. Just that they were also a mob family, and they were gay. He also mentioned they were high ranking. I figured he was talking about the same couple that the underboss had mentioned when he was here.  Honestly, I was a little worried for Maddox, it was pretty clear he didn't like people in his space, I included half the time and here he was playing host. I watched as he rushed around and cleaned the space, It wasn't even dirty.  Sighing I really wasn't sure how to help other than just staying out of his way.  Which was proving to be the most effective way of not pissing him off? They were set to arrive in less than an hour at five-thirty, with each moment that ticked by Maddox got more and more nitpicky about the way things were cleaned or set up. I had snuck away to get dressed and a little more presentable. I didn't have a suit or something like that, but my black skinny jeans and crew neck wool creme coloured sweater looked good together.  I bushed my teeth and made sure my hair was presentable. Maddox didn't say anything as he dashed into the bedroom and went to clean himself up. The suit he came out in was far sharper then all the others id saw him in. The black-tie looked sharp against the charcoal grey dress shirt. His hair was slicked back and poker-straight.  Something about this side of him didn't seem like the man I had seen with his hair in messy beach curls and a tank top.

I enjoyed that he was always dressed up, but when he dressed down it was something entirely different and it was great.  He looked sharp in this suit. I snapped a photo when he wasn't looking at me.  Double-checking to make sure I had all the ingredients for dinner. I took an easy breath. I was making lemon-herb sauce chicken, with a few sides.  I had made it twice before but I was super confident in making it. Maddox had faith in me too, which was really great. It was what I needed. Once he had finished rushing around he looks a look at me and I saw him smile for a split second.

"You look good. That sweater looks great on you."
"Thank you, your not bad yourself. I like this shit, it's different from the normal ones."
"It's far more expensive that's why it's sharper."
"Perhaps, But it looks damn good on you."
"Are you flirting with me?"
"I don't know, Is it working?"
"Emerson now is not the time, but after dinner, well I enjoy a good cream dessert."

I felt my face flush and I had to walk away from him before he says how much that sentence alone affected me. His phone went off and he had to go get our guests from the front gate. I did a quick once over.  Everything looked well placed and clean.  I smiled to myself before starting on meal preparations.  I sliced the fresh herbs, the basil was the very last thing I sliced before Maddox came back with our guests. I felt pretty underdressed when both the man came dressed in suits.

"Oh, it smells so good in here!"

The shorter of the two men said clearly smelling the mess of herbs I hacked into bits. Making sure the was noting that would need my attention right away I stepped away from the kitchen. I walked from the kitchen around the corner. Maddox was hanging up their coats.  The shorter male noticed me first.

"Hello, You must be Emerson, We've heard so much about you. Your quite the hot topic, right now."
"Hello."

Maddox looked stressed already. I could see his brow twitching.

"Pleased to meet you both. I hope you like chicken, We are having lemon-herb chicken."
"Oh! I can't wait, I love home-cooked meals."

Maddox led them to the living room. I went back to the kitchen to resume cooking.

"I realize,  I didn't introduce myself.  Im Addison, Can I help with anything."
"Oh, no. You're a guest I have it."
"Please I insist.  I promise I can cook."
"The more the merrier."

Addison went to make the creme sauce well I sliced the chicken and prepared the sides. He was pretty easy to talk too, Also very open about his life as the Donna of the Antonio Family. It was nice to have someone like myself. that was if Maddox kept me around long enough.

"Its really nice to see Maddox finally have someone to care for. He is a cold lonely man. Needs a loving partner to care for him."
" He is well taken care of."
"So, you're Cade's son?"
"Yes, though I was unaware of any of this until I was almost killed. That's how we met actually."
"You seem pretty normal and down to earth.  I like it."
"Thank you. It's nice to finally meet someone who is in the same predicament as me."
"Yes, however, I had no ties to the Mafia before my husband. You had your father of course."
"Yeah, that's true."

It was pretty clear right after we started drinking the wine that the drunker Addison got the more he talked. He showed their new baby, his garden and about a hundred other photos, but I was actually enjoying myself. By the time dinner was done, Addison was drunk and I was buzzing.  Addison finished off the bottle before we cracked another one.

"Hello, Gentlemen we the drunk in the kitchen requires a hand or two," Addison yelled pouring us more wine.

By the time Maddox and Addison's husband came to the kitchen, we were sitting on the floor laughing hysterically.  Addison waved at his husband smiling.

"Hello there. Please helps us relocate the chicken and shit. Im wasted."
"First let me relocate the wine. Away from you both."

Maddox took the wine and walked away with it.

"Why do you always steal the wine!"

Addison having been told that story busted out laughing as we clinked our glasses of the remaining wine we had together.  We were having a blast together.
