PAST

PALACE OF ELYSIUM

MONTH OF AUGUST

The room was shining in an aura of vibrant white, the smooth silky curtains billowing with the sweet-scented wind flowing in through the open windows, carrying in the fresh honeyed calm of the surrounding wilderness. The sun shined in bright rays of tenderness, embalming the atmosphere in a soft savory essence.

The sweet smells of pine woods and wet mud along with fresh breaths of roses and peach blossoms filtered through the enclosed space of the room, Lilith sat on the soft rug, her elbows planted on the ledge of the window as she played the flute, its music transcending her into a heavenly abode filled with pastures of flowers and gracious waterfalls.

Lilith wore a garment of the softest chiffon, peach in color, the flowy material twisted around her legs, her auburn waist-length hair softly chiming, wisps of hair flowing into her face. She looked around the stunning landscape, her vision enraptured with the calming beauty that encapsulated her, the beautiful green mountains along with the pale blue of the sky somehow calmed her soul.

Lilith had grown up here, in this wilderness of tumultuous beauty, for as long as she could remember, she had scourged through the forest, picking wild berries and flowers, her little dogs running after her in glee. Her childhood was stunningly picturesque, devoid of every hardship, everything came to her in a platter of gold.

And still, she felt caged in this golden castle, and the forest surrounding it, she was never allowed out of it, her nurses and maids monitoring on every action of hers. Lilith never knew who her parents were, never seen them, all she could remember was her nurses and Lucifer who visited her once in a while, bringing her sweets and chocolates.

She always felt a little strange, something brewing inside her skin from the moment of her consciousness, a murmuring power of wilful cadence embroiling inside her fingertips. Some deep enchanting magic running inside her veins, providing her with the power to heal the dying plants in their garden with the softest of touches.

Lilith had heard Lucifer saying that a layer of enchantment protected the Palace and the forest from outsiders, only accessible to those trusted by Lucifer himself. She always knew that there was a danger to her existence, some people considered her an abomination, a curse that was rekindled.

Yet, her heart yearned to roam around, to visit new destinations, see how the world is, meet people from different places, experience adventures, find her place as the queen of the new regime.

Lilith became aware of the past when she turned thirteen, her haunting memories of ages long gone by, trembled her innocent spirit, the lashes of betrayal and cruelty cursing upon her soul in brutal waves of torture anew. She knew of the trauma she had crossed over, life was giving her a final chance to live, happily and prosperously with the man who had battled his way through scores of humiliation and penance to gift her a life of peace and eternal bliss.

A deep rumble disturbed her repose, from where she sat with her flute, the soft melody flowing through the ornately decorated room. Lilith looked up to where the sound came, a shy smile triggering on her round face, her hands putting down the flute before gathering up and stalking to where Lucifer lay among the cloud of snowy blankets ruffled up from last night's activities.

The little bells on her anklet jingled as she padded across the soft rug, her steps lithe, her fingers twitching in anxious anticipation, something intimidating about the man she got married to last week. The past few days had been nothing but pure pleasure, of mind, body, and soul. She rejoiced, her mind convulsing with the untamed passionate bliss it was enduring, her psyche finally at peace.

Lilith climbed up the bed, separating the thin cloudy curtains, her knees digging into the squishy mattress, sitting down beside where lucifer slept, his head turned on her side, white sheets covering his naked self, her fingers gliding on the smooth pale skin of his back, a cluster of tiny black spots marking the right corner of the smooth expanse. She ran her fingers down to where two grotesque scars lay, the skin brown and puffed up in angry blotches.

Lucifer stirred beneath her hand, his turquoise eyes opening, the long lashes resting against his high cheekbones, his face chiseled and strong, his dark hair in an utter mess atop his head. He rose up on his elbows, wide eyes searching for some answers, his crooked smile on full display as he shook his head at Lilith.

"Good Morning my beautiful bride," Lucifer grumbled, his voice heavy with sleep, the tone of his voice deep, creating a longing deep inside Lilith's stomach, "You are up quite early, I see."

"Good Morning," Lilith chimed, her heart beating fast as Lucifer ran his fingers up her bare thighs, where her dress had ridden up, she stopped his hands by clutching hard onto it, "I couldn't sleep."

"Why? Is it those nightmares again, I thought you didn't--"

"No, that's not it, I just got fidgety, I keep wondering about the future,"

"Are you scared about going to the capital? There's nothing to fear about the palace of Asgard, even though I know how difficult it all may be for you since you've never really ventured out far from here but you must not worry, I will be there to protect you."Lucifer whispered, his eyes boring deep into her violet spheres.

"I'm not scared about Asgard, I'm scared about the life there, the royal customs that I'm not aware of, you think they will accept me as their queen? A rustic girl from nowhere really," she smiled bitterly, her mind running in cycles.

Lucifer sat up, the pale sheets entangling around his legs, his lips smiling unconsciously, his hands engulfing her face, squshing her chubby cheeks as he laughed out loud. Lilith narrowed her eyes at his gesture, her hands swatting aways his clutch in muted frustration.

"And now you're mocking me, just excellent."

Lilith struggled to get away from her offending husband, his laugh somehow triggered her anxiety even more than necessary, maybe the court would laugh at her in a similar way. Maybe she would be a subject of joke and humiliation, she would rather live here then, in seclusion than make herself a subject of jest.

Lucifer forced her on his lap, their faces inches away from each other, breaths mingling together, his hands splayed on her back, while her hands pushed at his broad shoulders lined with scars from various battles he fought over the ages.

She turned her head away, her annoyance rising in crescendo as she heard her laugh once again, her mood souring in return of his blatant ignorance.

"You're the reason that this court exists, You're the sole reason that we've fought for all these years and now you are worried that people won't accept you, I've altered the course of the world for you, for us to live and yet you worry over something as trivial as this, Lili, you really confound me with your thoughts."

"I know, I'm just," Lilith shook her head, her curls moving with her, a smile curling up her small lips as she realized her mistake, Lucifer had struggled and won this humongous war all for the sake of her, "I'm sorry, I guess I'm just getting cold feet, after all, Luce."

"Cold feet, huh? You're getting cold feet after a week of our wedding? Wow, "Lucifer chuckled, his face disbelieving, before breaking into a fit of uncontrolled laughter.

A sudden joy bloomed inside Lilith's chest, her hands entangling around his neck as she smiled adoringly at her husband, all these years of pain and penance to finally be with him, in this undisturbed cocoon of unsolicited happiness and glee.

Lilith stroked her fingers down the stubbled face of Lucifer, her fingers getting prickled by the sharp hairs, she leaned in, her lips entangling with that of his, their bodies moving in synchronizations, her robes detangling, as both of them got lost in one another in the passion of times immemorial.
