The first thing Lola noticed what how elegantly decorated the frat house was, she thought it odd but decided not to comment. Walking in the front door the staircase was immediately to the left her companions walked her straight in and towards the right into the kitchen. The kitchen was midsize with a nice marble island in the center, the counter to the left had large dark wood cabinets and the same black marble in the center under a large window was a modern looking sink with a detachable spray nozzle. The house was very impressive and impeccably clean. The island was neatly lined with red solo cups and large bottles of different kinds of alcohol. Up to this point Lola had only had a couple of glasses of champagne that Mila had snuck them at her cousins wedding. She recalled the warm giggly feeling the beverage had given her. Her stomach tied in knots how much do people drink at these things? She wondered to herself. Just then Austin handed her an icy cold cup of a drink that looked like juice and had various kinds of fruit floating in it, she thanked him and raised the drink to her lips, it didn't smell like juice she thought and wrinkled her nose. She took a big gulp and instantly felt the warm tingle spread through her body. It was delicious even if it did burn her throat and nose a little.
"Do you want me to introduce you to some people?" He asked loudly in her ear over the music.
"Sure, sounds great" she giddily replied.
"Ok, follow me out this way." He said cheerfully slurring his words slightly and grabbing her hand guiding her out of the kitchen into the living room. Seated on the tan sectional were 3 boys and 5 girls sitting in boy girl order with 2 girls on the right side cushion. "Lola, this is Bailey," he said gesturing with his open palm towards the girl on the far left end of the sofa, she had dark hair with a purple peekaboo highlight in the front, directly to her right is Zepher then the twins Cassidy and Caine, next to them is sitting Alicia with Mark next to Payton and on the end is Holly." "Guys this is Lola she's a first year so if you see her around make sure to look out for her." This made her excited or maybe it was her drink she swirled the fruit and ice around in the bottom of her almost empty cup. "Thank you, it's so nice to meet everyone." She smiled a bit too broadly unsure how to react being put on the spot in this way.
"Oh my Gosh I love your shoes." The girl she was just told is named Holly exclaimed. She had long blonde hair that had been pinned up on one side in a golden clip shaped as a bumblebee. "Thank you so much!! I love yours too, and your barrette." Lola squealed. The girl scooted over a bit and invited them to squeeze in next to her. Austin allowed her to sit down next to her new friend and he sat on the end next to her, noticing her drink was low he offered to go the kitchen to get and her a refill, asking if anyone else wanted another on his way. Of course everyone did so the boy she named Caine went with him to help carry all of the cups. Just then Mason came down the stairs behind them and sat down next to Lola. "Hey dollface, are you enjoying yourself?" He inquired brightly. He smelled like beer. "So far so good, how about you?" She exclaimed. "Oh you know, time of my life," he slurred in her ear.
Shortly after the boys returned with 5 cups each, distributing the drinks among their friends Caine settled in his same seat next to his sister and Austin lowers his eyes to where his teammate is seated in his spot. "I was sitting there." He says annoyed. "Oh my bad." He replied immediately getting up, he seats himself on the floor on the other side of Lola. Rolling his eyes Austin claims his original seat.
"Are you having fun?" He asks, Lola nods in response, if she was completely honest she was beginning to feel overwhelmed. She hadn't been around so many people in a really long time and the last party she attended didn't have the best outcome, but the drinks were helping and everyone was so nice she decided she could stick it out. The second drink was really hitting her hard and she was feeling a bit lightheaded. She leaned over and asked Austin where the bathroom was. Gentleman that he was he hopped right up to escort her. Reaching his hand out to help pull her up he didn't let go of it as he guided her upstairs. There was a long hallway with more doors than she had ever seen in her life, just how big is this house she wondered to herself. He gently pulled her down the hall past couples making out and drunk looking people some standing some sitting on the floor. They veer off to the right and he opens the door located to the left. The bathroom is huge easily the size of her whole dorm room. As she's washing her hands she glanced up in the mirror. Her eyeliner is smudged a bit and her curls have fallen some but otherwise she's satisfied with her appearance. Taking a piece of paper towel she gently wipes under her eyes and disposes of it in the wastebasket beside the sink. She then turns her head upside down and fluffs her curls up a bit. Coming out of the room he's waiting for her with a smile and a cup in each of his hands he holds out the drink he was holding for her. "Ready for another?" He asks. "Definitely." She says back with a giggle.
They head back downstairs to the kitchen where mason is refilling his cup from the keg on the table. He joins them at the island where Austin scoops some more of the juice into their cups out of a big tub. Just then Sia titanium starts playing "guys we have to go dance, this is my song." She exclaims. She puts her hand up and twirls her way out of the kitchen past the couch to what looks like the dining room. The table has been pushed against the wall and the chairs have been moved away for people to sit in in other areas of the house. No one is really paired off everyone is just dancing and laughing together in a big group. Lola sways her hips and and sings at the top of her lungs with her new friends carefree in the moment like a regular teenager. They carry on this way for hours only stopping to occasionally refill the drinks. Suddenly she's aware of how hot it is in there lightheaded and giddy Lola stumbles outside onto the back porch, a few people are outside smoking, they head inside after a few minutes. She lingers to feel the cool night air on her cheeks. Still smiling she walks down into the grass her heels sink in immediately so she walks on her tiptoes towards the wooded area behind the house. Her feet are killing her so she decides it might not be a bad idea to just take her shoes off, she bends down to unclasp the gold strap holding her shoe on when suddenly she hears what sounds like a twig snap off in the woods. Realizing it might not be the best idea to wander around intoxicated in a strange new place she hurries back inside to carry on dancing with her new friends.
When she comes back in she spots Cassidy Payton and Holly all up now and dancing in the dining room she decides to join them, Holly hands her another drink and kisses her cheek to welcome her. The girls dance with each other for about 10 minutes before Mason comes back, he looks at her relief clear on his face. " I thought you left without saying goodnight." He says. " I would never." Lola yells over the music. Austin comes shortly after and the group continues on this way well into the morning hours.
Suddenly Lola feels like she's being watched. She spins around looking for the source of her fear. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary she goes back to enjoying the night but she just can't seem to shake the chill. She should have learned to trust her instincts by now.
