Lola entered the main entrance of the library, walked past a pretty girl maybe a year or two ahead of her, engrossed in her phone, making faces with her tongue out. Lola thought she must be on snap chat and tried to make her way to the back without bothering anyone. She briefly considered finding a book she hadn't read, but quickly thought better of it. She was in no mood to concentrate on a new story, not sure she could follow, her mind often wandered these days. no, today was a day to mindlessly meander over familiar words. Words she knew well. She glanced towards Twilight recalling with a smile how she had been team Jacob and Mila team Edward, she briefly pondered what it was doing on a college bookshelf, surely no professor actually assigned this. Taking it as a sign she grabbed it off the shelf sat down in a comfortable plush bean bag chair in the casual reading area and began reading.
She had no knowledge of how much time had passed while she was engrossed in the sleepy town of Forks navigating the halls of generic high school life with the exception of the family of vampires and the soon to be tribe of werewolves, when she was interrupted by the most condescending voice she had ever heard. Just what I needed she thought excitedly to herself, a challenge.
"You aren't really reading that out in the open are you? I thought I had been transported back to middle school for a second." She glanced up to see her first real live "hot nerd" she wondered if he knew he was a literal stereotype but thought it better not to ask. He had black square framed glasses and his light blonde hair was in a low cut pompadour style with a hard part, he was fairly tall with a boyishly handsome face. She could get used to college. Hot guys just fall out of the sky, walk up and talk to you here.
"Maybe I should have hidden it inside my copy of Wuthering Heights. Would that have appeared more collegiate to you?" She replied quizzically with one eyebrow raised. She was definitely getting better at social interaction to her delight.
"Better still, Catcher in the Rye, my names Holden....."
"Like the character in the book." She interrupted "got it" he scooted a bean bag over next to hers and sat down on it. Looking at her wordlessly. "You're just going to sit there book shaming me?" She questioned.
"Friends don't let friends read Twilight in public alone." He shrugged "and I want to be your friend so I have to behave proactively. If I invite you out somewhere I don't want people to see us and say, "that's the girl that was reading Twilight alone on that bean bag why would you bring her?" I could never live that down."
After that they sat together reading, it wasn't awkward like she first thought it would be, it was nice. To sense another presence and not feel lonely but not to be interrupted either. She could get used to this. Next thing she knew her alarm on her Apple Watch started to go off. She quickly pushed the button on the side to silence it. " gotta go get ready for this party I agreed to go to." She explained.
" No problem" he said "I should go too. It was definitely nice to meet you miss..." he trailed off.
Realizing she never told him her name "oh, duh, Lola" she replied quickly.
To his credit he didn't try to be funny and repeat the oh, duh part like most boys would. He simply finished his thought. "Miss Lola, I'll be seeing you." She hurried away placing the book on the cart to be reshelved.

Lola was putting the finishing touches on her makeup while the flat iron heated up when she realized she had no clue where the Phi house was or what it looked like. She took out her map of campus and saw that the fraternity houses were on Ukrop way, Across from Kaplan Arena. It was a bit of a hike so she considered driving. Walking in heels that she wasn't used to didn't seem like the best idea she ever had, but what if she wanted a drink? She resolved to request an Uber and started curling her hair with the straightener. When she was just about done she opened the app the car would be arriving in 20 min it said, so she put her shoes on and curled the last two sections of her hair. She took a look in the mirror. She looked great, her blonde hair fell in ringlets down to her waist that she would comb out with her fingers when she was closer to the party, she was wearing a bright red tank style dress with cutouts on each side by her ribs. Her heels were stilettos of the same color with a gold metal strap shaped like a snake around each ankle. The dress hugged her y'all athletic frame perfectly. She knew she looked magnificent. She pushed away the twinge of guilt she felt at the thought of how Conor would have loved this outfit. They would have been late to the party for sure if she came out to greet him looking like this. She smiled at the thought as she played with the heart shaped diamond around her neck that he had given her. It was part of a set from Tiffany the bracelet dangled gracefully from her wrist next to her 2 Cartier bangles, one had been Mila's, her friend had decided when the other girls were giving each other home made friendship bracelets that was far too basic. Their friendship could only be represented by something equally as elegant as they were themselves. God, she missed that girl.
She headed out to wait for her driver. A red Dodge Charger pulled up. "Lola??"The driver asked "yes." She replied as she got into the back seat. She arrived in front a brown two story house and exited the car. She immediately heard an already intoxicated Austin yelling to her from the porch. Leaving his friends to run over to her pick her up and spin her around in a full circle. He carried her effortlessly to the grass and delicately sat her down, her heels instantly sank into the grass and she fell into him. He caught her reflexively. She looked up at his eyes they looked at each other a couple of moments too long before they both fell over in the grass laughing. Lola quickly pulled her dress down as far as it would go just as Shaun was arriving to help them both to their feet. Normally she would have been humiliated, maybe even begged Mila to leave right then, but new Lola was bold, new Lola didn't care what anyone thought, she was going to have fun, and break hearts, New Lola was a little like old Mila. She wasn't damaged, she was a final girl.
