I sat up quicker than a bomb detonating. My hands flew to my chest, and it took me a second to realise that my ribs hadn't actually broken.
But I still felt like I had just had one of my asthma attacks from when I was little, like I had just run at a downhill sprint and was breathing too fast. Sometimes (like when I have dreams about my godly dad being possessed, and then my girlfriend's weapon suffocating me), I still feared that it hadn't completely gone away.
I thought about my dream as I dressed. Helheim and the voices were stuck in my head, the whispers, black smoke, and threatening red light.
Only now I realised that that didn't make much sense. Helheim, however it sounds, isn't like Hell in other cultures, a fiery, terrifying place of punishment. It's usually described as a more neutral place, dreary yes, but not like that. Something was wrong down there, and I really didn't want to know.
Unfortunately, with my luck, I was going to find out, whether I desired it or not.
Short chapter, you thought snarkily.
