After the Grand Civil War, the Empire was in ruins. Cities such as Athens, Constantinople, Londinium, Lutetia, and even Rome itself was destroyed. Necrophage population boomed due to the vast amounts of dead bodies for them to feed. The Empire was at the brink of collapse. But if not for the efforts of the twenty Imperial Legions, the Empire could've collapsed. They managed to maintain order in the provinces by suppressing any local resistance. Mercenaries were hired to maintain the peace in exchange of Gold.

It took another twenty years for the Empire to regain its former glory. Rome was restored, the cities were rebuilt. The Empire was restored. But with the divide of the Church, disaster was always right at the corner. In 834 A.D. Emperor Romanus Valeria, he declared that the White Purity Church as heretics.

"For the sake of the Empire, for Europe, and for the Romans, I declare, that the White Purity Church, as undesirables. Due to their actions of the past, I cannot help but think if the possible outbreak of another Civil War! ". And with that, the purge began.

Emperor Romanus Valeria was coronated in 820 A.D. when Julius died. Without a son, Julius appointed his cousin's adopted nephew as Emperor in advance. The purge lasted for 10 years until the last remnants of the Heretics was hanged in Londinium. In 827 A.D. an unknown ship landed in the shores in Northern Gaul. Long ships, tall men wearing mailed armor, unintelligible language, and of all the places they could've landed, they chose Normandy, thus, the people called the the Normans. Their magicians possess strange magic not seen in the empire before. They have symbols carved out in their palms. With these symbols, they can unleash arcanic energy with greater intensity than an Imperial Magician can release. Although they are not hostile, they are trespassing in Imperial territories, so the Emperor made them pay large amounts of Gold for them to settle in Normandy. This greatly angers. As a result, an army of Normans sacked the city of Lutetia in 845 A.D. and occupied it for 3 months. A general named Tritus Bellator led his Legion to liberate Lutetia along with a Gaelic Tribe that supported them. The siege lasted for 2 weeks and the city was Liberated and renamed after the tribe that assisted the siege, "Paris".

The Normans were utterly defeated and were subjugated. Even when many were freed and took up mercenary work, the Romans still viewed them as invaders. Some Norman druids and magicians even work as healers and teachers in some parts of the Empire. Small uprisings and rebellions in Anatolia were suppressed and the Empire established a mutual defense pact with Parthia. There was peace for some time until in 1026 A.D. foreign invaders landed in Hispania and sacked the nearby towns and cities. Before any major army could clash with them, they left and sailed for Sardinia, establishing a staging point, for the Invasion of Rome, and beyond. However, one man, Aquilius Felix, both a Hunter and a Magician, will change the fate of the Empire and the Western World....
