"You may write me down in history with your bitter, twisted lines. You may trod me in the very dirt, but still, like dust, I'll rise."
Maya Angelou

"C'mon, I barely know what you're up to nowadays."

"I study, a lot. You're lucky you know you'll make it into your major if you write a damn good essay. It sucks for women in computer science out here." Jun groaned, slamming the book she had been staring at closed as she turned to face her friend.

Mei smiled back at her, turning back and forth in the swiveling desk chair as she watched Jun sway her legs back and forth on her bed.

"But what are you studying for? We don't have anything coming up. Let's do something."

"Like what? And finals are a couple weeks from now."

"Hmm, let's get some people together? My mom's out."

"Up to you if you wanna deal with people. I'll go half on snacks." Jun nodded with a smile, taking her bag off of the floor and stuffing her textbook inside.

"Perfect. Invite whoever. No extras though; I don't need someone ruining another one of my mom's bags."

"Are you inviting your boyfriend?" Jun grinned, folding her arms over her chest as she raised a brow at her friend.

"I don't know who you're referring to, but yes."

Mei rolled her eyes as she took her phone from her pocket, opening her messages and narrowing her eyes at the few that she actually bothered to text daily, one of which was sitting right across from her.

"Miss Popular doesn't know who I'm referring to." Jun mocked, her attention focused on her own phone as she texted her other friends. "I mean the guy you're currently simping for, or using for a character analysis I mean."

"Hey, don't make it sound like I'm using him. In fact, I really enjoy his presence. I'd rather be called a simp."

"Okay, Mei. But don't you feel guilty? I mean, he was obviously doing his own thing before you came along, what if you've disrupted it?"

"The hell was he doing? Staring out the window? Mourning his loss of volleyball? We're in high school. There's not much to do anyway." Mei sighed, choosing to scroll through the rest of her contacts before texting Akaashi, already knowing she would face rejection.

"I feel guilty just being a second party. The dude kind of scares me."

"It'll be alright."

Akaashi's a big boy. He can handle himself.

"Oh, can you invite Sho?"

"Ooh, you wanna invite Sho? Why does it have to be me?" Mei smirked back at her friend, who rolled her eyes in response.

"I don't actually have his number. It's not what you're thinking, so get that thought out of your head. And don't start coming up with any love stories to write!"

"No promises."

Jun groaned at Mei's words, letting her phone plop onto the bed as she lied back, looking to the ceiling. She quickly sat up, grabbing her phone and standing for only a moment before making her way to the door of Mei's room.
