She was awake though it didn't quite feel like it. It was as if she was moving through a dream, everything blurry around the edges. She was moving but she would forget what happened as she passed.

She tried walking outside, hoping that the sun would bring her back fully from her slumber.

"Hey!" Someone was in her path. She blinked and saw the boy waving at her. "What are you up to?"

"Just walking around," she answered.

"Mind if I join?" He asked.

She shrugged a shoulder and continued on. She looked down at her shoes walking on the spotted concrete. She tried to avoid the little ants and other bugs that were crawling in a world of giants.

"Want to watch a movie later?" He asked.

She shook her head and didn't look up. "Sorry not today."

"Or we can go to the mall," he suggested.

"I'm pretty tired," she said.

"Or there's this new ice cream place I've been wanting to try."

"I'm not really hungry."

He groaned, growing slightly annoyed at her lack of enthusiasm. "Come on let's do something. Anything."

"I'm not feeling up to it," she answered.

"Can you at least try?" He asked.

His words drifted to her a second late, and when they did, they jolted her awake. She was no longer stuck in that haze. Now she felt a fire burning up in her.

"What do you think I've been doing all this time?" She asked him angrily.

He threw his arms up in the air. "I don't know! Can you blame me for thinking that? Every time I try you just shut me out."

She stopped walking and turned towards him. "Why don't you focus on yourself instead and stop trying to fix everyone?"

"I'm not trying to fix you."

"Oh really?" She laughed humorlessly. "Okay then maybe I keep pushing you away because you're suffocating me. Can't you take a hint? So just leave me alone!"

He stared at her, her words cutting through him. She was looking at him in anger while lying underneath was the hurt. But at the moment all he could focus on were his own dashed feelings.

"Fine," he replied curtly.

He turned around and walked away. The moment she saw his back she immediately felt guilty. Frustrated tears stung her eyes. Why couldn't she do anything right?

Though it hurt her to watch him go, she thought it might be for the better. At least she wouldn't always be bringing him down.
