this isn't varian related content but please here me out.
As a person living in the Philippines, our government has signed an "anti-terror bill" into law (effective immediately), which will take away our freedom of speech, our privacy, and they will have the power to en-act warrant less arrests to anyone they deem as a "terrorist".
Our politicians, police members, and other branches of our government can deem a person a terrorist if they wanted to.
Here are a few examples of how they can label you a terrorist in this country:
Meeting up with friends can land you in jail, because of the possibility of plotting and going against the government. Donating or helping relief drives that aren't government/state recognized can get you arrested. Even memes will be used against you and will label you as a terrorist or a threat against society.
Imagine posting a goddamn meme and land in jail for 12 years up to life imprisonment.
They can cut through your personal emails, calls, and messages just because you've got an opinion about the government.
It even goes against the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of The Philippines - Article III, which explicitly states that,
"No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances. ... No law shall be made respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
I'm not really good at explaining stuff, but please do educate yourself and sign petitions about this because people's lives are at stake here. even mine.
speaking against the government is basically illegal now.
I've been signing petitions left and right and started voicing my opinion, which is something i wouldn't normally do. but thanks to our crappy government, that's exactly what i'm doing.
