Hiraya Mayumi

Hiraya is four avatars after Korra and someone who came from the Foggy Swamp Tribe, living with her grandmother there.
Hiraya's names are of Filipino origin, Hiraya meaning "may your dreams come true" and Mayumi meaning "gentle". Though she can't live up to her surname, Hiraya is constantly trying to become the successor of Avatar Cong-Ming- who was killed at a young age, not able to become a fully realized avatar- because she wanted to be someone who stood out and saved the world in some way. Or at least saw the world on her Coypu-Buffalo Likha, swimming to no end in rivers and oceans and helping people.
As a little kid, she learned about her powers real quick as during her first time fishing/hunting, she started simultaneously waterbend and airbend out of frustration to make it easier, due to the canoe being really slow in the stagnant state of the water (though that nearly got her and her uncle stuck in a tree). That wasn't just it- she had been in the spirit world and met past Avatars and other spirits who had told her that she was the next Avatar.
When she became sixteen, the white lotus came to visit as they came to realize through rumors and sighting of someone both doing really sucky airbending and plantbending to get above the trees that the new avatar was born in the Foggy Swamp Tribe.
The claim now becoming concrete, the people of the closeby earth kingdom (which is the most affected of bender-non bender propaganda) attempted to infiltrate the Foggy Swamp but was taken out quickly with plantbenders and Hiraya herself.
A month after that encounter and endless thinking, she swore that she'd fulfill her duty as the Avatar and master all of the four elements as soon as she could with noone but her rodent buffalo with her.
This takes place at about at least seventy years after LoK, in a society where benders are discriminated against due to fear and the manipulation of that fear for power. In some parts of the Earth Kingdom, it is legal to execute them, which Hiraya had not realized until she saw a flyer for her and multiple other benders, dead or alive.
But she still didn't lose hope as people were constantly chasing her, as she met a few benders along the way who survived the torture of the "movement", those people even helping her master the four elements in any way they could.
Likha
Hiraya's animal companion is a hybrid between the two swamp dwelling semi aquatic animals, the swamp buffalo and the coypu.
Likha (which translates to was found by Hiraya one day when she went back from hunting for dinner. She found Likha trying to steal the food the gave to their catgators, and they tried to cook her at first, but Hiraya felt that something was wrong about it. She soon tamed Likha after letting her go and feeding her a bug, as she kept coming back to the tribe's small huts to get food for herself.
