Chapter 3

AT JIMMY'S AFTER SCHOOL

"So why'd you ditch me for fuck face over there in gym?!" Jimmy yelled at me as he threw popcorn

at Jason.

"Hey! You're the fuck face!" Jason threw popcorn back and I smoothly took the bowl out from in

between them.

"I figured Michelle would rather be Jimmy's partner more than Jason's."

"What the hell did I do to her?!?!" Jimmy cackled and fell backwards and off of his bed. "Ow!!" I

smirked and threw one of his pillows down at him. "Damn it Jason!"

"It wasn't me!!" Jimmy tackled Jason off the bed and I raised an eyebrow at them as I ate popcorn and

watched.

"Hey Jimmy." I waited for him to stop, but he didn't. "Hey Jimmy, I went to the doctor and they said

our baby is gonna have both parts." I was referring to the joke that he and I made last year on the beach.

"WHAT?!?!?!" Jimmy stared at me confused and with a fake furious expression. "HOW THE HELL

DID THAT HAPPEN?!?!"

"Oh, it didn't. I was just lying to get you to stop hurting my self defense partner."

"So is it a boy or a girl?" I looked down at my stomach and rubbed it as I thought.

"I don't know." Jimmy smiled at me before he turned around on the bed and laid back on me. "What

are you doing?"

"Laying on the girl carrying my child." I rolled my eyes and continued to eat from the popcorn bowl.

"You're gonna get fat! You know that?"

"You're mean." I pushed him off of me and stood from the bed.

"Where are you going???" I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder.

"I don't know… I think I'm gonna go for a walk." Jimmy frowned a little, but nodded. I left the

Sullivan house and started walking down the street, not sure where I was going. I still don't have the streets memorized, but I know what streets I shouldn't go down.

I had been walking for maybe thirty minutes when I realized that I was walking down my street. I

sighed, not wanting to go home yet. Then I groaned a complaint when I saw Brian outside his house with some kid who goes to the middle school close to here. Brian yelled something and shook the kid. I frowned and slowed my walking a little. Brian yelled something else and threw the kid on the ground.

"What the hell are you doing now?" I whispered to myself and walked a little faster. Brian kicked the

kid a few times before picking him up and hitting him.

"Hey!" I ran up to Brian, but not fast enough, he got two more punches on the kid. "Hey! What the

hell are you doing?!" I pulled the kid out of his grasp and shoved Brian back.

"Stay out of this, Kate!" Brian took his gaze off of me and looked at the kid behind me. "And where

do you think you're going?!" Brian stepped forward to grab the kid, but I stepped in front of him again.

"Back off, Brian. You're being a dick." I shoved Brian back again and he clenched his jaw. I turned

my head over my shoulder a little. "Go four houses down that way," I pointed towards my house. "And tell them Kate is right behind you." The kid took off and Brian glared at me even more.
