A rock flew in the air, her foot hit another one and threw it all the way to one of the many abandoned wheels of the tip. And here she was again, in this terrain-vague, trying to find any sense to her life. She spends more time here than at home. The atmosphere there is just unbearable. Once again, she left just before her father got home. He always hits her and yells at her mom. So she just leaves, to escape this, to escape her reality. Here, she can just be herself and free. They always meet with her band. All of them are just like her, same reality for everyone. They all come here to escape their lives. And then, as she was lost in her thoughts, feeling fooling pity for herself, she heard someone calling her name.
Matt : Jill !
That was Matt, one of her best friends in the band.
Matt : Jill ! You fled again ?
Jill : Yeah… my sister got caught by the police last night, I knew what would happen if I stayed.
Matt : You did well to leave, I saw him drunk just earlier, I got a bit worried about you.
Jill : Don’t worry, I can take care of myself.
Matt was one of the only people she could confide in.
Matt : Do you want to come ? We’re all there.
Jill : Yes sure, comin’
They went over to some kind of abandoned car where all her friends were. These people were the only ones who understood what she was going through and who didn’t feel pity for her. She didn’t want pity. She wanted to be accepted. They talked a bit, about many things. Not long after, they heard a melody, coming from behind the spot where they usually meet. They all knew that this music could only come from one person. Not too many people come in this tip.
Jill : Is that Joe ?!
Joe was more than a friend to her. He was like her brother. She’s always known him since she can remember. They grew up together, supporting each other in their lives. And as much as she cared for the others, Joe would always have a special place in her heart. He knew her better than anyone, better than her own parents.
Laurine : Yeah it must be him, let’s go see !
Lea : Let’s split up guys, we’ll have a better chance of finding him.
And as the group went in every direction, Jill directly ran towards their usual spot, some kind of red scaffolding. She knew that he would be on a rock near it. They used to meet there as children. She got to the scaffolding and she saw him. He was singing and playing his guitar. She immediately turned around before he could see her and alerted the others.~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sooo this is a short story based on the play The Children written by Edward Bond
Other stories based on this play will follow because I got really inspired when I read and saw it x)
Would definetely recommend reading and seeing this play btw !Most of my stories pretty much follow the real story of the play, I mostly only emphasised the violence that these kids (especially Jill and Joe) go through with their parents, which isn't clearly said in the play even though one could easily guess.
Anyway, hope you enjoy ! Feel free to tell me what you think
